I got tagged too
I am not sure I can come up with 10 strange or unusual things about myself. Hmm, I have 6 strange kids, does that count for 6?
Ok, here goes.
1. I guess the most unusual thing about me would be that I am the third of 4 kids born within 4 years (2 older sisters, 1 younger brother) and I am the only one that is not deaf.
2. Because of #1, I spent my childhood wishing I were deaf. In fact, my mother tells me I used to ask when I would be. I just didn’t like being left out and left behind while they got sent to boarding school. Their school seemed like much more fun than mine which, while small and private, was overwhelming to me. Of course, my siblings did not always have such a bed of roses either since the some of the nuns were none too nice at times! Plus they got sent to boarding school instead of being able to stay home. Everything is in the perspective isn’t it?
3.Even though it is the predominant language of my siblings, I am not fluent in sign language and should be by now! However, my siblings did not learn sign language until they were teenagers and we were all not speaking to each other by then! LOL! Three teenaged girls in one room, it’s a wonder my mother survived!
4. I am going to finally start college at the ripe old age of 48 to rectify this by becoming a certified sign language interpreter. Maybe more if I take to the schooling. The world is open to me now.
5. I have a husband who is willing to relocate and change jobs so that I can do this! Wow, isn’t he a sweetheart and a half?
6. I met my husband online. He lived 600 miles away and I dragged my 15 year old daughter (FireFaerie) kicking and screaming with me to marry him! It’s been 7 years now and we are still going strong!
7. I ended up marrying a man with the same background and upbringing from the same part of the country but it took the internet to bring us together. We both were raised in textile mill cities that were worked by French Canadien immigrants from Quebec and Irish immigrants back ‘in the day’. Both cities were basically split in half with the French Canadiens on one side and the Irish on the other with each nationality intensely proud of their heritage which spawned enduring friendly rivalries in each city. We are from neighboring states and may have even crossed paths in high school since we were both on the Speech and Debate teams. So now here we are 30 years later, living 600 miles from New England, he being of French Canadien descent (the poor guy!
) and I being of Irish descent. He’s SOOO jealous!
(See what I mean about friendly rivalry? I can’t wait to see his note! LOL!)
8. I had straight pale blonde hair until I turned 13. Then it got dark and curled up like crazy! This was before hair gel so my only option was to tie it back and I got called "bird’s nest" for years.
9. I only gave birth to one kid, but ended up with 6! Even worse, my kid who was an only child until 15 with only an older half sister, ended up with 7 step-siblings between her father’s and my remarriages. Ah well, she survived! lol.
10. I was on speed dial at the school 2 of my kids went to. Literally. I wore the road out between our house and the middle school Steven and Stephanie attended and they had brass plaques with their names engraved on the desks in the suspension room. (Ok I’m just kidding about that. The names were only engraved by my kids themselves…costing them another day in suspension! lol) One day when I picked up Stephanie yet again to begin her out of school suspension, she told me in the car that the principal only had to push one button to call me. I laughed thinking it was a joke, but she said no, "Seriously Mom, they only pushed one button!" I guess it just saved time for them!
That’s the best I can do. So now it’s time to tag 10 others if they have time or haven’t already been tagged. Let’s see…
My family of course, my hubby Mathemagician,my sister DomestiCat, my kid FireFaerie, and all my favorites: Barton, Wintergrey, Solitary Soul, MiddleJo, MysteriousWaters and ummm that’s only eight but that’s everyone on my favorites list that hasn’t been tagged already! Well, except for Irish Artist but she’s the one who tagged me.
Well by going back to college you might learn the truth… there are 2 types of people in this world, those who aren’t Irish and those who wish they WEREN’T!! Geez, when are you ever going to get it right!! Of course, citizenship in the Red Sox Nation will ease any handicap of being born with the wrong nationality. (I still love you though!! – Hell, somebody has too!!!) (Running and Ducking!!)
