I knew it would happen some day.
Yes, I had heard teenagers grow up eventually and stop thinking their parents are stupid, and corny, and irritating. But we had three of them at once back in 2000 when I wrote this in my first online diary. We let our hopes go of that happening though, in exchange to just get them all out of the house! LOL! So read this old entry first and then I will tell you what has happened that just floored me last night.

Our tree is up!! – 11/29/2000
The day after Thanksgiving, hubby and I were out bright and early looking for the best place and prices for a BIG tree!! We found what we were looking for, but didn’t buy the tree then, as we wanted it to be a ‘family outing’. We figured if we did the running around first, we wouldn’t have to listen to the whining as we did the shopping already, just had to pick out which tree. (I know, I am SO naive sometimes eh? LOL!)
So, pretty close to late morning, we drag the kids out of bed and what’s this I hear? Whining?? Is there no escape? And now they are all bargaining with us trying to stay home! And making nasty comments about not only Christmas and its traditions, but about US for wanting to be so ‘corny’!!! Who the heck do they think Santa is anyway?? Not some kindly old gentleman who will forgive their smart alek mouths! No, no, no! These children are foolish enough to be insulting from whom all presents come! I have said it before and I will say it again, they are not the sharpest tools in the shed!
Finally, we pile into 2 cars since the cars are both small so we need one for the kids and one for the tree…and guess who gets the nice quiet tree?? Let’s just say I was not so blissful on the way home! LOL! But hubby and I were excited despite the kids and we were singing along with the Christmas music playing on the loudspeaker just to humiliate the kids. They were appropriately mortified so we had our little bit of fun *grin* but noticed they started following at quite a distance.
Because they were dragging so far behind, I got a view of all of them together…they looked like such a motley and annoyed crew! So I said to my hubby "There they are, our 3 jolly elves!" He turned around and said "Looks more like Dopey, Grumpy and Sleepy if you ask me!"
And we have such bright children, they all knew who was who and they were not the least bit offended!!!
Ya just gotta wonder sometimes! I know I sure do! LOL!

This entry was written when Steven was 14, and this year he turned 20. No longer a teenager but juuuuust barely! So imagine my utter shock last night when we called him to see if he was coming home for Thanksgiving and he says he hopes to because he wants to help us pick out our tree!!!!!!
So all you parents out there suffering with teenagers, have faith. They will grow up someday and you will be not so corny and stupid anymore. I would like to know why that doesn’t happen until after they move out though. Why can’t we enjoy some of that while they are still messing up our houses and eating all our food?? Huh? LOL. Lucky for all our kids, we love every last dang one of ’em… whether they like it or not!!
so very true!! My kids are my life and so far they dont treat me like they think I am TOO corny… just a lil bit LOL

Yep….I, at this moment, have a 14 year old son with the teenager attitude because I got yet another call from a teacher today. But I guess I will survive the boy teen years. Only 6 more years to go!!

My kids are not at the teenage years yet so I need to log this one away and not forget it! Thanks for the encouragement.
