What the heck is going on?
I have flowers on my Christmas Cactus!! Huh?
When I got this thing 3 Christmases ago, it was dripping with flowers. After they all died off, the plant actually stayed healthy for me, amazingly enough! So 2 Christmases ago, I put it into a dark cool room for 3 months before the holidays, but to no avail. Not even a hint of flowers to come. This past Christmas I just left it out and of course, nothing.
I have been worried about it lately though. It’s kinda wilting. Am I watering it too much? Or not enough? Or is it just because it’s still cool? I don’t know. But I sure was shocked when my hubby pointed out a flower ready to bloom this morning! Like I said…"Huh?" I was so distracted by the fact that he had to ask me a question 3 times before I heard him!
So I didn’t put it in the dark at all and it’s not Christmas and it doesn’t look healthy and it’s got a flower. I don’t get it. But I sure am excited to see the flower:)
I can really appreciate this – plants are at risk in my house – my dad, however, merely has to have a plant in the room with him for it to flourish. Of course, he can’t explain what he does – even before he lost his memory, all he could say was “I give it a bit of water.” Well, I do that – but they always die. Grrrrr.

I can’t even offer the merest smidgen of advice having managed to kill off all plants that live inside our house and the one in the office to boot. These cacti are beautiful though, so I hope that you manage to hold onto it.

Aha – you have an Easter Cactus! A friend gave me a Christmas cactus when my first son was born in April 1981; it always bloomed around Easter. I don’t have it now, but it lasted a long time.

Mine just bloomed too. What’s up with that?

Maybe it’s a death-flower, like a cactus swan-song, lol. I hope it blooms real good and stays alive.

I never put mine in the dark. I usually move it to the porch for the summer. I have one that blooms at Thanksgiving & one at Christmas. Maybe they should be holiday cactuses. Don’t water it too much-that may be the problem. It’s a desert plant…Good luck!
