Updates from the garden in the city

So the powers that be decided that I did not need a lovely garden growing on my balcony, nope.. they sent a terrible thunderstorm my way with horrible winds and from what I can see the only fatality was Mr. Pepper.. husband and I are devastated.. to make matters worse due to the sudden raise in temperature my broccoli bolted… -grumbles- Hopefully all my hard work is not completely lost, I am also here to announce a new addition to our garden L’il tomato popped up a few weeks ago and when I was watering them the other day I realized that L’il tomato ain’t so little anymore.

As far as the brocolli I’m going to start again when the weather cools and hope I can make it work.

Still no cauliflower but with the recent high temperatures I’m not surprised, I’ll just have to keep an eye out.

I picked up some cucumbers and squash but with the heat I have yet to transplant them… I’ll probably do it on a night that I get out earlier or Kel works late.. no point in starting it now when I’ll just have to leave shortly to pick him up anyway.

Several people have asked me if I’m planning on selling my necklaces after seeing the one I made for myself, it pays to wear your own work as an advertisement. I told them I was thinking about it but I want to get a bigger collection going so I can put together a catalog of sorts.

Kel’s dad is moving into his fiance and is selling his house so there will be an influx of new (well new to us anyway) coming our way. I must tell you our apartment is jam packed with hand-me-down and trash picked gems.. I love it. I’m even in the habit of rehabing some of the pieces. I took three doors that someone threw out (all the same size and all thick, very thick wood) and attached them and turned them into a chabby chic black three-fold screen.. but I needed the space since our lovely apartment is surely lacking and placed them against my bedroom wall, added three giant sparkling stars (Christmas Tree Shop) and I have the coolest headboard in this whole entire city.

So have I mentioned the heat? I believe it broke 99 today and I think it’s been quite sometime since that’s happened.. The animals are hating it, I came home to Darla freaking out in her crate all her water gone (it was full when Kel left at 11) so I gave her some water and then rushed her outside into the shade and poured water all over her after shaking it all off she stopped panting as much and I could tell by her mood was feeling much better… me thinks I should take her with me when I pick up Kel so she can be in the air conditioned car for a bit (as long as she’s dry). My long haired cat is laying on the floor next to me, the fan blowing her lush black curls all over. She looks damn near dead from this heat but then again she’s always been rather lazy.
As for me and my MS, I’m doing fine, I was in air-conditioning all day at work and only noticed the heat when I got to my care. I watered my plants, the whole time sweating buckets and then plopped down in front of the fan and let the sweat dry on my skin and I can honestly say I feel better… but if this heat gets any worse I may have to break down and get an air-conditioner cause I hate heat related muscle spasms!

I started overloading on fruits, vegetables and nuts today and drank water instead of soda and I was very surprised when I didn’t feel my usual caffeine withdrawal that I usually have when I limit my intake.. I think I might actually be able to sleep when I go to bed tonight. My only problem was when I decided to eat a couple radishes and spent the next 15 minutes clutching my hernia ruiing the day I was born.. I took one of those magical pills and I am starting to feel better.

In other news Kel and I used part of our economic stimulus check to get tattoos.. I wanted something that spoke for me when it comes to dealing with MS so on my left arm, right above my wrist I had him write Strength in beautiful Juliet Script because that was the arm that was affected the most and still is and on the other arm in the same spot I have the word Hope in the same font because without hope we’re all doomed.
