Bienvenue à Québec
Well I came home from Quebec yesterday. I had a great time. It was just so relaxing. The town that Nicholas lives in has a population of about 800 – 1000 people and not a single person speaks English. They seemed to know only 3 words of English; “Hello” “Bye” and “Toaster”. So I had a few days there to work on my French. My speaking is horrible, I am so slow… I know the words, it is just thinking how to put them togeather so they make sense. Listening wise I can understand about 60% of what people are saying. One of my lifetime goals is to learn french before I die. I want to be fluent in both official languages of this great country.
So what did we do for the time while I was up there? Well on Friday and Saturday afternoon/night, Nicholas and I sat out in his backyard on two couches he had put by this fire pit. So we drank in the mid afternoon sun and just chatted. It was good times. I also got somewhat of a tan! I HAVE COLOUR!!! Not just a pasty Irish boy anymore! At night we had a fair size bon fire. Friday night we went on a drunkin adventure into the wilderness of Québec, it was fun, but we got soaked to the bone, cause we were hiking through all these valleys that were saturated in dew.
On Sunday afternoon, Nicholas, Mehdi and Virginie went to a provincial park to go on a hike and smoke a couple cones. We came across these massive rapids, they were quite impressive. I can’t think of words to describe the power this river had. Nicholas had to work Sunday night, so I stayed in and watched a movie and smoked a cone to myself.
On the Monday afternoon, Nicholas and I went into Joliette (means “Pretty Town”) and had a couple beers out on this patio… for some reason there were an obscene amount of good looking girls all week. Or I was just extremely horny, who knows, but if I could have spoken the language better, I would have asked out at least 5 – 6 girls… no joke. So many hotties.
The weather was absolutely perfect on the weekend, I couldn’t have asked for better weather. It was +24 with a light breeze and not a cloud in the sky on both days.
The drive there and back was not bad at all… I smoked a couple cones and just chilled to some quality beats. Driving stoned is very easy, I actually like it. I don’t get stressed out and angry at other drivers when driving high. I just think “Whatever…let them kill themselves.” Quebecer’s are the worst drivers I have EVER seen. They don’t believe in using their turn signal, and will cut you off in a heartbeat. Driving through Montréal was hell, it was one giant construction zone and it seemed the more lanes that were available the more Québec drivers feel the need to chaotically change multiple lanes. Picture somebody throwing a rock into a wasp nest, and the wasps scattering all over. Well the wasps would be the cars on the highway… It was really hectic.
I actually wouldn’t mind living in a small town for awhile. It would help me get back to my roots. When in town I feel I am almost a slave to technology, while out there we were out and about almost the whole time. I didn’t even think of checking my email, or surfing the web even though I had direct access to a computer.
