exactly what i want

currently:

reading: good omens (again)
listening: oh no!, marina and the diamonds (day 6, a song that makes you want to dance)
watching: overwatch world cup matches
obsession: planning my wedding

day 6: your 5 senses right now

sight: my messy desk at work, covered in highlighters, rubber bands, paper clips, spare pens. my sticky notes that crowd the bottom of my computer monitors and part of the wall next to them, with their reminders of actual important office things and silly “inspirational” quotes. the tiny little easel that says i’m “clarisa’s favorite purchaser” next to my two halloween themed mini rubber ducks (one a pink alien, one brown, with autopsy stitches) and the belle ring that i got off a cupcake at some point. the computer screens themselves, one with our OS up and waiting for me, the other with tabs for this diary entry, spotify, and twitch. stacks on stacks on stacks of paper- purchase orders, sales orders, acknowledgements, invoices, orders that have been invoiced that need the information recorded so the AP department can pay them, and other various things that clamor for my attention. a san diego zoo snow globe with penguins in it. a kazoo. a tube of solid lotion next to a nasa mousepad next to a box cutter. two lemon and ginger teabags, an apple, and one last sticky note with a rude word in korean.

taste: i brushed my teeth this morning and have not eaten anything sense, so all i taste is the lingering, fading mint of my toothpaste.

sound: at the start of this entry, the marina song i listed for day six. now, the hum of the office around me- people talking in the halls and the kitchen. the low static hum of the earbuds i have in, but are not playing anything through, so that people will leave me alone but i can still hear anyone coming my way before they get here. the whirs of the printers next door as they print UPC stickers. after i’m done writing, i’ll start the old twitch stream i have up, and i’ll be treated to one of my favorite australians analyzing his casting for an overwatch league game.

touch: my hands are a little dry as i band away on this keyboard. my feet are bare, since i compulsively kick off my shoes under my desk, so i feel the plastic mat my chair sits on under one foot, the other propped up on my printer against the particle board backing of my desk. my chair is a strange stretchy mesh sort of thing, that has no cushioning but doesn’t really need it. i don’t have the back locked in one position so occasionally i lean back and have a nice stretch. i have a crick in the right side of my neck and my shoulder is stiff.

smell: i just put a little of the solid lotion on my fingertips in preparation for doing paperwork. the scent is “oatmeal and honey” and it does smell oat-y and sweet. i can smell the waxy sweetness of the apple on my desk, and the woody smell that emanates from the drawer with the pencils in it behind me. later, when eileen decides to make herself breakfast, that smell will invade my office from the breakroom kitchen from both the vents above me and the hallway in front of me.

this weekend was so nice. we visited with my grandparents friday and saturday, and my parents as much as possible. we went to the restaurant sarah works at on friday night, since she was working, and then made my parents watch overwatch after hahaha. saturday was the bush hill festival and i got so excited- i hadn’t been since my sophomore year of college. we bought a ton of soaps, bathbombs, body scrubs, and wax melts. we won’t need to buy any until next year at least. it was a productive, if sweaty, morning. we went home after, and watched more overwatch until 3:30ish, then once dad got home we piled in the van and went to lexington for bbq and cider. the bbq was fantastic as always and the cider was delicious- we refilled our growlers with blackberry for me, and pear for both of us. then sarah and dylan came back from their respective Big Days- dyl bought a car and sarah had gone to some winery with llamas for one of her friend’s birthdays- and mairead also showed up for a minute! we gave mom and dad their christmas/birthday present early- we’d all (well, not mairead haha) chipped in for a smart tv for them. they were very surprised and amused we got them a tv. dad even said, “oh god, are we that old that you’re getting us a tv like we did for my parents?” and mom followed up with “let’s call phillip and ask him to hang it on the wall for us.” but the tv they had was impossible to format- a good inch was cut off the picture on every side and my poor dad was Suffering when he watched any sort of sport, which he does a lot. so he went and picked up calzones for everyone as a sort of snack (since we’d had dinner so early) while dylan and andrew set the tv up. mairead left shortly after dad got home with the food with promises to hang out properly over christmas. after that we all settled down and watched expedition unknown until one by one everyone went to bed and it was just me and andrew watching, enthralled. it took significant force of will for andrew to actually turn it off, haha.

yesterday we got up and went to bojangles for a late breakfast, drove through cumby’s to bring dad food and say bye to him, and then drove to winston to look at a wedding venue. we love it. the space feels so much like both of us. we’re scrambling to get the money together to get the payment made this week. andrew’s mom was almost an hour late to the meeting, bless her heart, but we went to krankie’s after a brief walk through and had a talk about our ideas and pros and cons and all that so she would feel better about it. after we drove her back to her car, we went home, packed all our stuff up, said bye to the dogs, gave mom one last hug, and hit the road. we stopped at a cookout just before the state line, and then about an hour later so andrew could take over driving duties. for about the first hour we just talked about the wedding and related nonsense- andrew even called guyla to say wowee you’re the best man congrats, which was hilarious. then we just put on the good omens audio book and let it play.

we ended up getting home to a very put-upon cat at like, 9:30. we’re definitely not ready for the week- i had no clean cups with lids for coffee, no breakfast snacks, nada. so i’m about to finish this up and get some water and something from the vending machine to with this apple.

see you tomorrow y’all.

“wait, how long WOULD your heart keep beating if you had a pacemaker but you died?,” “look, cows,” “he never lets anyone touch his hair.. wait you let rachel touch your hair?? really??” <33
