Knoebels Amusement Park trip part 1

Today we made the drive to Elysburg, PA, in anticipation of my coaster club’s annual summer event at Knoebels amusement park. The trip from my house took just under three hours, and most of it (save for going thru Harrisburg) was comprised of some freeway but mostly winding country roads. We ran into some storms, but nothing terrible, just really dark, threatening skies that did little more than produce a gentle rain. All bark, and no bite, as the saying goes…Speaking of Harrisburg, we passed beneath a couple of interesting bridges, one that was really old and ornate looking, looming large over the street we traveled and looking quite out of place. Given that area’s location on the Susquehanna River, it isn’t surprising that one might find at least a few such bridges.

Finally we got to our hotel, which was rather old but it was clean and is close to the park. We were hungry, and so we set about looking for a place to eat dinner. There were a couple of close places, but the most appealing was the Nickel Plate Bar and Grill. Once we turned into the parking lot, we remembered we had eaten there the last time I went to Knoebels last fall. And just like the last time, the food was excellent. My husband got a Reuben sandwich and I got a burger and both were really good, as were the onion rings we got for sides. Knoebels is known for its food, and this restaurant and the surrounding golf course are both owned by the same family. It’s time for me to go to bed as I have an early start tomorrow, as I will be helping my coaster club check people in for the event. I’ll likely be too tired to post an update tomorrow, but will do so as soon as I return home.
