Boobventury morning, showery afternoon.
Oh man, today has been a very long but rather awesome day.
Last night we went to bed a bit later than normal (we were up watching the latest season of Dexter. This weekend our cable company has a ‘free showtime preview’ which includes On Demand which means we can catch up before there is a baby to potentially creepy out massively with the ominous music and murder and things! Yay!) so we slept in a touch this morning. At 10:30, Lisa showed up and not long after we headed over to the mall.
Our goal was to find me a new bra or two, and some shirts to accompany them when whipping-out-my-boob becomes a thing I need to do. So we called our trip a ‘Boobventure’. And it was a very successful boobventure. We went to JCPenney where I got measured, but they didn’t have my size so we went to Macy’s next. Macy’s was rather successful, now I have 2 bras that ACTUALLY FIT ME which is awesome and comfortable. I was amused with how much bigger this bra is compared to the one I have been wearing.
Then we wandered over to Old Navy, and I got a few shirts with buttons. 1 needs to be returned because it was a little tight, but another fits so well right now (even though it isn’t maternity… kinda odd but cool) and is so comfy that I ended up wearing it all day.
Final stop was lunch at Bertucci’s (I think that is how you spell it…). I had a pollo parma sandwich along with a little cup of soup (that Jake mostly ate) and some salad and a bread roll. I remember their flavoured oil being super amazingly delicious but it was rather cruddy today. I don’t know if that is just a pregnancy thing, or if they changed it, but I had plenty of other tasty things so all was good.
We came back home for a little bit, Lisa spooned piles of jam on top of wheels of brie and then wrapped them in pastry, and then banished me to my bedroom while she wrapped some gifts. I shouldn’t say banished though, because man I was comfy, resting on the bed for a little bit after all the shopping.
A little before 3, we headed over to the Pollard’s house, same place where we got married more than 5 years ago. Karen and John are lovely, wanting to host our celebrations like that. The party didn’t start until 4, but Karen needed Lisa’s help with some setting up, so we just sat around in the living room for a while. At first we were standing by the doors leading out to the pool, watching and giggling at the puppies outside, one of which was a Great Dane. Apparently the runt of the litter too. Giant dog. I wanted to go out and pat them, but Karen wanted to keep the dogs away from me because what if the giant dog knocked me or something. Makes sense, but still, it was so cute! I think her name was Mystery. Or Snowdrop. I’m not sure which dog was which (the other was just a mutt I think). So we went and sat in the living room, bored for a while but then Stacy (sister in law) and her mum showed up and they started setting up cute decorations that I have now ended up with.
Everyone that showed up at about 4 (pretty much everyone showed up at once… it was amusing)…. Michelle (Lisa’s best friend), Diana (Jake’s stepsister), Barb, Laurie, Mel, Kerry and Frannie (Barb -> Kerry work at the Split Rail with Jake, Frannie is a super-regular customer who was also at our wedding). I’m pretty sure that was everyone.
We played 2 small games before eats. One was to guess how many onesies we would open later on, and another was to guess how many jelly beans were in a BIG plastic bottle. I think there was 1181 in there? I guessed something like 300. Even though we didn’t win, we still ended up with the jelly beans, so now we have a thousand jelly beans. Poor Jake, has to eat them all (they are the ‘gourmet’ kind… unless I have a detailed guide as to what is what I don’t risk eating those because very few flavours are things I like).
‘Dinner’ (or just… ‘meal’) was kind of odd. I grabbed a little bit of everything, and the few things I didn’t like, I left on my plate and traded with Jake’s empty plate once he was done so it looked like I ate all my everything. Heheh, I’m sneaky. I don’t remember what everything was, all I know is that the remnant flavours of it all are still in my mouth and won’t leave and they don’t make a good combination.
I think next was another game. It was kind of like a test in school, we were given a piece of paper with sentences and we had to fill in the blank with a body part. I was done first (of course, I always rushed through tests) and I was so amused when I found out that one of the ones I guessed (at least 3 of them I had absolutely no clue) as butt was actually bottom, so I got it right. That amused me way too much.
Next was gifts!

The giant box is a crib mattress, and that wasn’t wrapped or anything. Everything else… oh my. Especially considering there was 12 people there. I had Diana handing me bags, then I’d unwrap and pass the trash to Jake & Laurie and then the gifts to them and Laurie would pile things into bags to fit better. So many cool things, so much clothes, this little girl will have so many outfit choices. Well, I will have so many outfit choices for my little living doll. I have no idea where all these things are going to go, we don’t have much space!! I really wish she had her own room, then even if she had too much stuff, I wouldn’t have to fill MY bedroom with it. And for tonight, we have nowhere to put all the stuff, so it has to stay in the kitchen. Ugh, I hate it. I want to find everything a place RIGHT NOW. Yikes.
The only individual gift I really remember off the top of my head at this moment was from Barb. A little purple outfit, a little stripey outfit, and socks that look like shoes. Purple, stripes AND socks? From a woman who doesn’t know me all that well! AMAZING.
Jake won the ‘how many onesies’ game – the answer was 26. My favourite number, I should have guessed it! He got dish towels, which is just funny on so many levels.
After a little bit of dessert (miniature cupcakes and a coconut slice mmm) it was time to bring everything back here. Stacy thankfully had a very spacious car, because Lisa had brought Jake and I in her tiny little 2-door yaris. With the 2 cars, everything fit. Otherwise there would have been no way of bringing the mattress home, I think. Now to wait until Wednesday when there will be a replacement crib and then there will be a place for the mattress to go! And then we can wash the sheets (and maybe the bedding set if that arrives/gets dropped off from Diana’s place) and things will be all set for the little one. Well, I still have to pack my bag, but that isn’t being restricted by lack of something, other than energy.
I need a good, long sleep.
Sounds like your baby shower was a huge success! I hope Jake enjoys his dish towels very much 😉

The shower sounds like it was fun! I was going through a few of my shirts last night trying to see which ones were pop-a-boob friendly and which weren’t. I’m going to need a few more to be able to wear more then 3 shirts while breastfeeding. lol

Instead of wearing breastfeeding shirts, I bought nursing camisoles and wore them under regular shirts. That way you are still fully clothed while nursing, but only have to spend money on a few camisoles!

Awesomeness! Tee hee! I love that Jake got dish-towels! Hmmm, nursing bra shopping now may or may not be sustainable. My boobs got HUGE after my milk came in. However, they are not as huge now as they were in the beginning, so even if they seem small they may fit if you wait a month. Heh. Oh boobies, why must you shrink and grow so much? ~jo
