fight *ETA stupid girl *ETA sawyer present

[]

dennis’s fight went well. we were talking to his opponent after and the guy thought that not only had dennis dislocated his shoulder but he thought perhaps his nose was busted. however, the guy caught dennis when he dropped his hands and knocked him out. i was so upset. he had it won until he hurt the guy’s shoulder and the fight was stopped for a minute. at that point, dennis realized he was gassing out and didn’t come back in with the same momentum he started out with.

here he is after. no bruises this time.

he was really disappointed but he put on a great show. so what if the guy caught him with a good punch? they were both impressive. my friend THOUGHT she was recording it for me (on my digital camera) but she didn’t hit the button right 🙁

here’s dennis with shawn tompkins, the owner of the club (where they fight, not where they train.)

this guy is now a coach on randy couture’s fight team (he’ll be travelling to california a lot in the future.) some of his fighters have been to UFC (mark hominick and sam stout)and he has a very successful club (there’s a website if you care–http://www.teamtompkins.com) he’s pretty nice too. i turned off the flash on my camera because it works better in that club without it and after i took the picture, he didn’t run off but expressed concern that the picture hadn’t worked because there was no flash. most guys as successful (and popular with the girls) as he is would’ve taken off as soon as the picture was done.

this is mark hominick (he usually referees the fights but sam stout did it this time):

and sam stout:

(he seems pretty nice. i got in his way at the club and he smiled and said hi to me; i thought he would just ignore me but nope. 🙂

the funniest thing is that these guys have "groupies." i was standing next to these 2 girls at the fights. they were both dressed to the hilt with fake nails, big hair, and everything all done up (as if they were at the UFC and not a fight club in london, ontario) and i had to laugh at them when they were talking about what a hot ass tompkins (the owner) has. i couldn’t help myself. they giggled back at me and i said "well, i guess it’s his own fault for standing up there!" (he was standing up on the side of the ring between rounds talking to his fighter.)

anyway, once we get the fight tape, i might record it (it might not be a great recording) to share.

ETA: something that is funny now happened to me at the fights. dennis’s fight was scheduled to be after the intermission…so i thought. the announcer gets in the middle of the ring and announces the first fighter. this HUGE guy comes out. really intimidating. i almost had a heart attack. i said to dennis’s dad "that guy is NOT 170 pounds!" i said to myself, it’s okay, dennis can handle it. then, the announcer calls out the other fighter’s name. NOT DENNIS. his fight was second. *phew* i felt like my stomach had turned twice and come out my throat.

*sigh of relief*

i still feel fear now.

i was really nervous but i was trying to hide it. i didn’t want to make dennis nervous. i didn’t bother to sit (well, i did for about 3 seconds. then i decided that was a bad idea. there was no way i was sitting still.) now i know it’s not such a big deal. i probably still won’t sit next time but i don’t think i’ll be as nervous.

ETA: dennis just got this

for sawyer. i will probably save it for his birthday so that he can play with it at his party, but i know he will LOVE it.

if you would like to see what it does, go here http://www.fisher-price.com/fp.aspx?st=2341&e=detail&pcat=amazinganimals&pid=37219

did i mention we booked a hall for his party? such a relief. i was going crazy trying to think where to have it. we’ll be serving lunch but we haven’t quite decided what we want to put out. we’re thinking salads, veggies, munchies, deli meats, and buns. tomorrow night, we’ll be looking for invitations (after my eye appointment.) we’re hoping to do a thomas the tank engine theme but we have to see what kind of decorations and invitations we can find. we have these huge pieces of cardboard (dennis is using them as dropcloths) and i’m thinking we’ll draw a big thomas on them, cut him out, and attach pictures of sawyer from birth until now on it (or on a train car behind him.) we’ll see how that goes. we’re going to give it a try since the cardboard isn’t anything we can’t throw away.

I couldn’t imagine having my (someday future) husband do all of that. It seems so scary!

December 5, 2006

I don’t think I’d be able to watch a loved one physically fighting with someone else! I know it’s what you’re used to, but I still don’t think I could watch. Does it ever make you feel squeamish? The cardboard “Thomas” idea for Sawyer’s birthday sounds great, by the way 🙂 RYN: Us ‘celsius’ nations have to stick together 😉

I’d be so scared to have Bill fight…not that he couldn’t, but just….ohhh it would make me angry if someone hit him. Even if it was consensual LOL That’s a cuuuute little toy 🙂 kids’ toys are so much better than they were when we were little. kristen
