 my good friend’s mom died. i didn’t even know she was sick; c.f. never mentioned it. she wrote me an e-mail saying her mom had died and she was sorry to tell me by e-mail, but she wasn’t ready to talk to anyone on the phone (and she is a real talker, so you know she’s distraught.) they’re having a private funeral but her family situation is pretty complicated, so that makes total sense.

last night, we went to get my eyes tested. he says they will probably stop worsening soon. yay! that’d be good, because i’m afraid i’ll go blind at this rate. after getting my prescription, we showed the girls on the other side of the store (one side is the doctor’s office–completely separate really–and the other is Pearle Vision) which glasses i wanted. it’s hard to see when you’re trying frames on, so i hope i like them as much as i think i do! the inside of the frame is snakeskin printed.

even though dennis had chosen these the last time (but forgot by last night and was unsure–i swear he’s so indecisive these days) and the girl in the store liked them:

they will be ready by friday or monday. i’m excited. i hope to get them on friday. i will be able to see again!

i really liked the doctor i saw. he explained everything he was doing, what every test was for, and was very friendly and easy-going. who’d expect that in a mall eye doctor? not me, but i liked him very much. my glasses, with their amazing new super-duper teflon lenses cost over $300 with the half off the lenses deal, but i need my lenses thinned, anti-reflective coating, and very durable lenses (sawyer loves to grab mommy’s glasses.) that’s actually not bad, especially since the frames are Guess frames.

i didn’t take sawyer to tales for tots today. i didn’t feel up to it. he’s getting hard to keep still while we’re there and AF is visiting, so maybe next week. we do have to go out to mail a sympathy card and i’d like to order "the birth house" (i’ve looked at it at wal-mart a couple times and want to read it, even though i have tons of other books i need to get to or that i’ve started) from the library while i’m uptown (maybe it’s downtown? not sure.)

i’d prefer to just buy it on amazon than get it from the library (which could take some time–they have to order them if they’re new like this and who knows when i’ll get it) but there are other things needed in this house more.

one of the teeth sawyer’s getting is nearly through, so he’s back to sleeping through the night and he’s back to his cheery self. every once in a while, he gets whiny but he’s always laughing and happy, so that’s alright. he thinks everything is hilarious. and mommy thinks he’s pretty funny too. in the mornings when he wakes up, i can often hear him over the monitor (he’s downstairs, we’re upstairs) yelling and babbling to himself.

today, he figured out that if i don’t close the baby gate to the kitchen just right (it’s not quite the best fit), he can pry it open. greeeeeat.

we’ll be seeing our family pictures sunday! that, i am excited about as well. i really hope i look good in the full family photo we all choose; it will be up at dennis’s parents’ house and i don’t want to be the one who looks like a dolt to ensure the majority look good (often happens with a big group.) ;p

we did some "necessity" shopping at wal-mart after getting my glasses done with. we did NOT find invitations for sawyer’s party in the mall or in wal-mart so when we got home, dennis looked online and found a site on which to make thomas the tank engine invitations (i’ll post pics of them eventually.) we figured we were going to have to make them, so we bought paper with clouds on it while at wal-mart. dennis is going to print one off today for me to preview and then, if we like it, we’ll print the rest. we’ll get red and blue plates, cutlery, cups, napkins, and table cloths for the party and make the picture board i was talking about yesterday and we’ll be all set.

while rocking sawyer last night, i came up with another idea. i think we should ALSO make a big cut-out of harold (the little airplane on thomas & friends) and have him on the wall carrying a happy birthday banner behind him. we’ll see if we get time for that. we have christmas parties and activities planned (some not by choice & some two in one night) for every weekend until sawyer’s party and i haven’t even chosen the pictures i want printed for sawyer’s thomas picture board.

we’ve a few more thing to decorate out and inside the house, christmas shopping to do, food to make or buy, and then we’ll be ready for the holiday.

sawyer was getting into something he shouldn’t have this morning. i said "no-no" and said "get down" a couple times and he DID. then he crawled off smiling and happy. i’m so proud of him for understanding what i was asking and for doing it. now all i have to do is learn to add please when i’m requesting something of him and we’ll be all set. my own parents never placed much importance on saying things like "please" and "thank you" to me, so i don’t always remember.
