Baseball is back!

Baseball is back.  ❤️  The first spring training game for our beloved Angels started today. So excited.

I’m grew up in Michigan (by way of Colorado and Oregon) so my team growing up was the Detroit Tigers.  My favorite player was and always will be shortstop Alan Trammell.  Sparky Anderson, the best manager.  1984 when the boys from Detroit beat the upstarts from San Diego in the World Series the best game.

We used to play baseball during the summer when I was a kid across the street where the horse shows used to be.  It was not a Diamond, but more oval shaped.  With an old wooden bat and some ripped up balls we’d play.  We didn’t have any gloves, but that was ok.  It was fun.

When I moved out to LA in 1992 in my 20s, I followed the Dodgers for a bit during the Eric Karros era, but it never really felt like real baseball to me. My God, the pitchers would bat!  Stupid National League.

I fell in love with baseball again after I met my wife.  She grew up “behind the Orange curtain” in Orange County a stone’s throw from Angel Stadium and loved her Anaheim Angels.  The World Series victory in 2002 when the lowly Angels beat the mighty Giants led by Barry Bonds in 7 games.  Game 6 of this series is by far the best baseball can offer.  A come from behind victory to stave off elimination and force a game 7.  What a game!  Mike Soccisia definitely gives Sparky a run for his money.

When Mike Trout made his MLB debut in 2011, we were all hooked. My son was 7 and loved Mike Trout.  He played little league and winter ball and always wore Mike Trouts number.  Not so many Angel fans up here in LA.

In 2015, we went to our first Spring Training and we’ve gone nearly every year since.  It’s really a lot of fun to watch our Angels and meet other die hards.  We’ll be seeing the Angels and Cubs this years, I believe.   Should be a great time in Arizona.  Go Halos!  Looking forward to a great season this year.  After last season’s worst- ever record, it can only get better.
