New Items and CNY

Nowadays I find my weekends packed. Not busy with housework though.

Spent last Sat at home. We went to supermkt to do grocery shopping in the morning. Oh I love going to supermkts. Haha. So many things to see, esp now that it is nearing CNY, there are some many CNY goodies on sale. Then we went home and made some ngo hiang (wu xiang). J helped in the chopping of ingredients and I did the wrapping and steaming of the ngo hiang. Gave some to my in-laws and my parents and we kept 2 pcs for our own consumption.

Our tv sideboard and plasma tv was delivered on Sat. Yeah!  Tv sideboard was sponsored by my sis and bro. Cost $500. The plasma tv comes with free extended warantee, Dvd player, sound system and a HDTV receiver. The HDTV channel was so clear! But too bad it has yet to roll out fully so we wont be able to get all programmes in HD format. Anyway, dont think the HDTV receiver will be of much use once we install SCV on out tv as SCV will have its own box…

Oh, I finally get to read The Straits Times on Sat. Ever since I moved into our new house, I hv not been reading the print edition. It feels funny actually coz I used to read newspapers everyday in my old home as we subscribe to them. So I arranged for newspaper subscription and delivery on Sat and Sun only to my new house. Dont think will hv time to read papers on weekdays.

We r thinking of buying a cuckoo clock to put in our living room. Saw a shop selling plastic ones at under $50 but we thought they dont look nice at all. The more authentic wooden ones are selling at $100+. So expensive! Will need to do more research before we buy one.

Am a bit excited coz it will be CNY next week. This Sunday to be exact. Going to hv reunion lunch at my parents’ house and then reunion dinner at J’s side. The chances of having steamboat at both places are almost 99%. May buy some yu sheng to go along.

This will be the first time I spend CNY with J as a married couple. From the look of it, I will be spending the first day with his family and then the second day with mine. I had applied for my marriage leave that week so I wont be working at all next week! Might as well lah since J’s office will be shutting down the whole week too.

Going to give out ang pows for the first time. I wonder if you hv heard before, some ppl said that for the first year after marriage, you do not hv to give ang pows and can still collect ang pows. But that is for the first year only. Well, I certainly wish we can do that. Haha. Not that I’m stingy but I thought we can save up all that ang pow money for our banquet in March. But then….. I think we will be giving ang pows afterall.

Bridal shop called to inform we can collect our tea ceremony photos. Most prob going to do so on Wed. Cant wait to see how they turned out. Hv no plans for Valentine’s Day this year. Initially wanted to cook western food at home but now that we r going to the bridal shop, we will be eating out.

Hv been looking out for CNY deco for our house but it seems that all the deco this year looks similar. Red and gold with those glitter, pictures of pigs and those cute cute boy and girl. I dont really fancy glitter. In fact, I dont like it when they stick to my fingers and clothes. And it’s so difficult to remove them. Arrgh. I think I prefer those traditional deco, simple ones with words and NO GLITTERS.

Stopping here. In case I din write again, Happy Chinese New Year everyone!
