annual meeting
Yesterday’s meeting took nearly three hours. We had a long discussion about changing out playing time. Last season we played 60 moves in 1 hour and 45 minutes, followed by half an hour each for the rest of the game. The proposal was 1 hour and 30 minutes for 50 moves and then 30 minutes for 25 moves more. Luckily, after an extended debate and a close vote everything remains the same. At the moment almost all games are finished before 11.45, with the other tempo things may have lasted till 12.15, generally.
The other major point of discussion was what to do if someone wins a game and is still disadvantaged due to a minor flow in our computer programme. Our executive committee proposed to eliminate such a game at the end of the competition, with which I agreed. However, it was not possible to convince the members. In the end it was decided that if the difference between number 1 and 2 at the end of the competition is less than .01 that then a play off of one game will be played (followed by rapid games). No games will ever by sticking from the final table. This will mean that I’ll have to be extra careful in making the pairings, and this means that all championship contenders will play against each other in the early rounds.
It was also decided that I will become our new team captain. We’ll see how that goes in September.
