Dr. Phil paper finally done

The Dr. Phil paper is finally done. When we had our presentation last week our instructor didn’t have anything to add (as opposed to comments made to the other 5 groups), and the written feedback she gave on the theory and method, and the analysis chapter also said that she found it ‘very nice’. Monday we came together to integrate everything into one coherent whole. Jolanda couldn’t be there because of a teachers’ meeting that she had to attend. Postponing it to Thursday was a theoretical option, but in hindsight I am happy that we decided to just do it with the two of us (me and Fransy). We were busy with it from 1 till 6 and after that I continued on my own till about 9. There had been some misunderstanding about who would write the conclusion. Jolanda should’ve, but apparently the message did not get through to her. She did write the introduction, which was not her best piece of work. I rewrote it and then I wrote the conclusion myself, which I and Fransy think turned out pretty good. Introduction and conclusion should concern itself with ‘the why question’. Why is it that we wrote this paper? Apart form reasons that we had to in order to pass the course? Imbed it in existing literature and not just say ‘because it’s interesting’. Difficult to answer.

The next paper I have to write will be on metaphor in poetry. I will compare different methodologies of applying conceptual metaphor theory. Reading about this is fun, but writing is something that may be more difficult. I have never written a purely theoretical paper before and I’m curious to see how it’ll turn out. You must have done it at least once I guess (of course I did write theoretical papers in the days that I studied economics, so maybe I can draw on that experience).

In between days papers I’m now taking it a bit easy for a couple of days. Reading for fun and trying to get Dr. Phil out of my head. Tomorrow I have a dentist’s appointment, which means that I’m going to my parents today. Hopefully, the latter will be relaxing too.

Something that is distracting is that the bus drivers are on strike. The means that I can’t get to work on my own and that I have to beg people for a ride to get there. This gives a feeling of loosing independence and unrest. No working extra for me as long as this strike is going on.
