metaphor
“We must close the book on the bleeding wounds of the old politics of division and sail our ship up a mountain of hope and plant our flag on the sunrise of a thousand tomorrows with an American promise that will never die!”
So I’m steadily making progress on my MA dissertation. I will write theoretical sections on hypotheses, metaphor identification and methodology, before I shall continue doing some actual empirical investigation.
While I’m doing this I’m also trying to get Fransy to get to a topic of her own. However, she has housing problems. Where she is living now she doesn’t have a room of her own and only sporadically internet, which is not a healthy situation. Today, she had an appointment for a house, but she didn’t get it, which is why we’re not meeting today; she is too upset.
Maybe Fransy will do metaphor too. Life is full of it, as can be seen here. (taken from chalyx)
How many metaphors can be found in the above sentence? Such are things that I will be looking at for my dissertation.
With regard to tomorrow’s game: we only have 8 men, too many people are leaving our team and now, should someone be sick or abroad for work, we don’t have people to fall back on. Next to the loss in points we’ll also get a €20 fine per board that remains empty. We should just view this game as practice, to gain some rhythm. Some players haven’t played for half a year. Getting a rhythm is important. Last Tuesday I played against Auke and I won within 20 moves. In the ‘friendly’ game we played after he showed that he can do much better (but I still won). He won’t make huge mistakes tomorrow‘
now i am finally going to look up Draughts and see what that’s all about. i was under the impression it was something like checkers?
