summer: Cock

Yesterday it was raining like hell. I waited with going to the draughts club till it was dry, then I took off, and then, of course, it started raining like hell again. I arrived completely soaked at a nearly empty building. So, afraid that no one else would come, I sat down and waited.

After a while JP entered the building and we installed the new version of the computer programme we use to make the schedule for the competition. To share the pain he got soaked too. Then Gert entered, soaked. And then Cock. He had the good sense to take shelter under a viaduct, and travel only in between showers.

I played against Cock, a seemingly boring classical game in which I was put a little bit under pressure, but not under a lot. In the end I made sure that we got into an end game of 4 against three, which was so very much a draw that he rightly decided not to play on anymore.

The other game was much more exciting. Gert had a hanging piece on 10. JP missed a beautiful, but not too difficult, positional manoeuvre to secure an early victory. Now, after a two-hour struggle, he won anyway. But Gert probably had a draw in hand.
