television and football

Last Sunday, the 29th, I once again fell into the trap of watching too much television. It was the day that the championship of the football competition was going to be decided. AZ was in the lead, but both Ajax and PSV were still in with a chance. The games weren’t broadcasted live, but I did have the chance to follow the developments via teletext. And this is what I did. However, at the same time Luik-Bastenaken-Luik was on (cycling). During this race regular update were given on the situation at the three football matches. It was all very exciting. After 8 minutes PSV scored, making them virtual champions. Then Ajax scored, and they were the champions. This went on for a while. The AZ game was very exciting too. I would have been very glad if they had won. Only after about 10 minutes they went one goal down, and to add to the misery, there goalkeeper was sent off. After about 80 minutes they equalised (2-2). But this wasn’t enough. Desperately trying to get the 3 goal, which would have won them the championship, they had to concede one more.

AZ lose 2-3

Ajax win 0-2

PSV win 1-5

Ajax just had to score 1 goal more. Unfortunately PSV win on goal difference.

Now I should just have turned the telly off. Everything would have been all right. But nooo, now I wanted to see the finish of the cycling. Boogert naturally didn’t win.

Another chance to switch it off. But I did not. Now I just haad to see the gymnastics, we won 2 bronze medals, which is a really good result.

This was followed by interviews and stuff. All really boring, and I just kept on thinking “I’ve got better things to do”. Why didn’t I just press the off button a bit sooner?

I should just never turn it on. That’s the solution. Reading and writing. ‘The Internet’. That’s all so much more fun.
