the three-game decider: 1

My brother’s universal DVD player does not want to play my region 1 Buffy DVDs. This is weird, which means that now he is going to try to play them on his computer.

Last Tuesday I played the first game of the three-game decider for the championship. In an interesting classical game we were evenly matched, but with more than 4 minutes on the clock I made a terrible mistake, which meant that he could give three pieces and take back four. I thought that my move was clever and that I would win the game, but I had forgotten to do move checking, which is actually unforgivable, even if it is a time shortage situation.

Now I’m forced to win one of the two remaining games, and Cock can choose to play very conservatively, with a draw game in mind. The risks I’ll have to take could lead to a second loss, but those risks I’ll just have to take.

Auke, one of our better players, his brain tumour has returned. Hopes of him actually playing in our internal or team competition are getting slimmer and slimmer. He is feeling pretty fine, but MRI scans tell a different story. Cancer almost always comes back. Let’s just hope that it is not as bad as it seems.
