work
Yesterday I had to work from 13.30 till 22, which is something I don’t usually do. I work at a call centre offering support for people whose internet isn’t working. It seems that lately everyone’s internet works, which makes the job easier for me as it results in short 5 minute breaks between phone calls. However, chances of staying at this job for much longer decrease. Management has already sacked all employees who were on probation because we get less than 1/3 of the expected calls. There’s a good chance my contract won’t be prolonged at July 8. Well, I don’t really like it here anyway. I just don’t like searching for a new job. And I still have to combine it with my studies.
In between calls I had time to read a bit of Harry Potter. I hope to finish this 4th book this week. So, I was reading a really exciting bit, and then the phone rings and your back in the real world. Someone is having trouble with internet (probably a broken UTP cable) and just refuses to cooperate. Everyone wants a mechanic and just assumes it is our fault. And sometimes it is, then just try to convince them that it is a local issue this time.
And then the call is done, and you go back to your book. Talking about highs and lows.
Talking about work. Last Sunday I had to work too. I was very much on time (9.30, when starting at 10), and could still get into the building. At some point after my entering the property the door got jammed and people couldn’t get in or out anymore. This meant that most people who should have been answering phones couldn’t. And we were with just 3 people handling the entire country. Waiting times spiraled out of control, but we just had to stay calm. Luckily our facilities manager forced the door open and people could enter. So by 11 waiting times were reduced to 0 again, and I could start reading my book.
