1623 What I know

This morning she was diagnosed with stomach cancer.  On Friday morning (9.15.06) they will perform a CAT scan to determine if the tumor is still "contained".  If so, they should be able to surgically remove the tumor and, very likely could remove her stomach as well.

If the tumor has broken or spread, I am not sure what the prognosis or course of treatment will be for her.

She is hospitalized at the University of Wisconsin because this is where her kidney transplant took place.  She was back in Madison for the routine 4-week follow-up to her kidney transplant when they began seeing other things going wrong in her body.  They were finally able to make the cancer diagnosis after 9 days in the hospital.  My brother and I plan to drive up to Madison tomorrow morning.

As all of you know, my mother is a 17 year survivor of ovarian cancer.  She was given a 20% chance of survival back then and we know that she’s lasted this long only by the grace of God.

Thank you for keeping her in your prayers.

Your mom and your whole family will be in my prayers.

I am in the Chicago area (well, out of town this weekend, but I do live in Chicago). If you need any help at all, please let me know. I can watch your darling babe, or drop by some foods, or whatever you need. I promise I am not being a creepy internet weirdo — but seriously, if you and TBU need anything, please don’t hesitate to ask and I’ll do what I can. –Becca becca.anderson@gmail.com
