1629 Looking better

It’s late.  I was on my way out of here for the night, but I saw that the computers in the lounge weren’t being used, for once.  There’s no chance that they’ll be available when I have free time tomorrow, so now’s the  time to drop a quick line.

Thanks so much to everyone for praying for my mommy and our family.  I still believe in miracles.

Thanks for all your notes of concern and well-wishes.  It feels so great to know that you guys are thinking about us!

Due to the overwhelming gift of my mother-in-law and her ability/willingness to drive over from Iowa to look after Gus for a few days, I am once again able to make the trek to Madison to spend a few days with my mommy.

I was here last weekend and started to notice the upswing.  It was gradual, but it was there.  Even through the tube in her nose and the respirator, she tried to laugh at a joke.

When I got here tonight, I could immediately see that she’s much more "with it" than even last Sunday afternoon.  She can’t talk (or be heard), but she can mouth words to me.  Most of the time I can figure out what she’s trying to say, but not always.  I know that must be incredibly frustrating for her (since it is for me).

So, she’s still really weak and needs lots of care, but at least I can see my own mommy & her personality again.  It will be a very long road for her.

Jeesh.  The rent a cop just bugged me to see my "after hours" pass – which I don’t have.  So, that’s another sign that it’s time for me to head back to the hotel for the night. 🙂

Thanks again everyone.

My grandfather had cancer of the throat and couldn’t speak very clearly after his surgery, sometimes we could understand him and sometimes we couldn’t. We got him a whiteboard so that when we couldn’t get what he was saying, he could write it down for us. This helped ease some frustration for everybody so that he could communicate. Sending your mom my thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery. *hugs*
