1667 Ni Hao, comrade!

Saucy Scale: 8

Yesterday’s nap-time drive coincided with the craptastic blanket of wet snow that blanketed Chicagoland.  I fibbed to Gus and told him we were heading out for a coffee.  He fell asleep before I even made it to the drive-thru.  We did some driving and did some parking in our driveway(…the roads were a wee bit nasty for my liking).  Mattson ended the nap-a-roo around 4pm…thanks to his teething pain.  When I woke up Gus to bring him into the house, the first words from his mouth were, "no mommy, we have to get coffee!".  Goodness gracious, but I do love me that boy.

Last night I took Baby Girl to the vet for a check-up and discussion about her nervousness.  I was only half joking about puppy prozac.  I didn’t really want to turn my darling into a Stepford Puppy and I knowing my vet as well as I do…I KNEW he wasn’t gonna write a script for doggie drugs.  (He’s been our family vet since 1974, and I think I’ve gotten to know his style by now.)

Vet and I discussed her issues (the nervous shaking and the subsequent laying down of nervous poopies).  There is no evidence that her pooping is a medical issue (upon further inspection of her parts, he deemed them in proper working order).  I had noticed/commented that Baby Girl is a TOTALLY different dog in the evening once TBU gets home.  The Vet is taking a much more holistic appraoch to the situation… he wants her to have much more positive playtime with the adults as well as some well-supervised child-puppy-playtime.  That’s our first step, I guess.   I’ve been made efforts all morning long to pet and talk with her.  I even had Gus give her her morning Greenie.  He did suggest that we might need to take her for additional obedience training.  I’m not sure we’ll be going that route.

Mattson skipped his overnight crying jag last night, which was nice for me.  He woke up this morning at 6:30…which is sleeping in for him.  Also a nice turn of events.  Gus slept SUPER late today!  It was nearly 8:15 when he finally crawled out of his bed.

So, it has been a lazy morning around here.  We finished our breakfast and they’ve been playing.  I’ve done some laundry.  Mama is feeling a bit cooped up.  I think that as soon as my jeans are out of the washer/dryer we’ll be heading out to walk around the mall.  I’ve been lugging around a bag of returnables in the back of my car since Nov/Dec.  It’s time to get rid of them.

The premiere of Ni Hao, Kai-lan is today.  This is the first step in the Chinese indoctrination of our babies.  We’re thinking of putting Gus in Chinese language classes this summer.  (Actually, I’d drag him downtown Chicago for Swedish lessons, but I don’t really see the Swedes being a big world dominator any time soon.)  Uncle Boogie pointed out that when The Chinese take over America, they won’t really want us to know the language.  Funny, funny uncle.

The communist message within the premiere episode was "calm down, calm down! no anger allowed, comrades".  When we’re issued our personal copies of The Little Red Book, I’m sure you’ll find it right there.

Kai-lan’s monkey Hoho could totally kick Hello Kitty’s @ss in a cute-off.  (Besides, you gotta love a monkey named after a tasty snack food.)

Mattson is starting to fade…time for some nummies & that morning nap!

5 Things That Make Me Happy:

  1. The power that Tupperware has over my children.  Way fun!
  2. The power that coffee has over me.  YUM!
  3. Great, now I crave a ho-ho!
  4. Being able to interpret Gus like no one else can "he kicked the boat up in the air!"
  5. A warm mall on cold days!

In grad school, my Chinese friends (they were exchange students in the dept) would teach me Mandarin and I would teach them Hindi. We figured it was a fair trade since all the jobs were going to India (at the time) and China is getting closer and closer to ‘buying’ out America. 🙂 It think it is smart to teach children other languages!

I love the days with the boys 🙂 So similar to mine with Sam, makes me feel like we could be walking the same mall with you.

I think it’s funny you’re putting your kids in Chinese school. I had to go and hated it so much that I am debating whether I want to inflict that sort of pain on my kid.

RYN: You mean I still have over 1 month to go until he might be over this phase? Did you guys do anything to stay sane or just weather it like a zombie? I’m like the walking dead over here especially since he like to boycott his naps, too.
