1688 I feel the earth move, under my feet…

…not so much under my feet as much as under my house.

(So it’s old news at this point, but I was without an internet connection when it happened….)

The earthquake that rumbled along the faultline in Southern Illinois early Friday morning…yeah, I felt it all the way up here in Chicagoland.  Actually, Miss Baby was the first to sound the alarm.  Usually when she’s doing her "low growl" at night, it is because she hears Gus getting out of bed.  I was trying to shush her and simultaneously had "one ear open" trying to listen for the sound of Gus opening his bedroom door.  Only, he wasn’t out of bed and his door never opened.

The windows in our bedroom rattled first.  Being only just barely awake, I wasn’t sure what was going on.  I thought it was a woodpecker or some kind of critter scratching.  When the window rattling picked up speed, I wondered if it was raining or really windy outside.  When my headboard started hitting the wall, I was fairly certain that it was an earthquake.

The rattling of the bed only lasted a short time, but the window rattling continued for quite a bit longer.

Across town, my brother woke up b/c his lamp was shaking.  He thought it was either an earthquake or that our mommy’s spirit was really pissed at our daddy.
