1723 Mama just wants to eat a salad, people!
Saucy Scale: the kids are sleeping soundly…10
The Sweet Baby Jesus promises to never give us more than we can handle. Today He was merciful and skipped the morning sickness altogether. With all the other sick around here, He just knew that would break me once and for all.
I packaged up The Booger Boys for a jaunt to gather some provisions. I was having a Cobb Salad craving and Gus declared his desire for a fruit salad (who is this kid?), so I thought maybe I’d place a to-go order. By the time they were loaded in the car, Mama was a bit ravenous. I knew I wouldn’t make it through the grocery store and the long drive home with our to-go order in the car, so I opted to eat-in with the kids. WITHOUT ADULT BACK-UP! I’m either incredibly brave or so freaking stupid.
Halfway thru lunch Gus was doing a little dance in his chair…Potty Time!?! Oh jeesh! I scooped him up on my left hip and gathered up Mattson on my right hip and I RAN to the bathroom! When I got into the huge handicapped stall, I learned that some loser hadn’t flushed their #2 before vacating the stall (UGH!). I had to put Mattson down – praying that he wouldn’t sit down or start touching everything in there – thankfully, he complied. I had to hold Gusser over the potty to do his business. We repeated this while washing Gusser’s hands at the sink (how hard is it to have a child-size step stool in the bathroom in a Family Restaurant?)
It was a maddening experience. I will Never.Eat.Out.Without.Adult.Back-up.Again! I didn’t realize how nice it was to have my daddy, brother, or hubby around to guard Mattson while Gus attends to his business. If I can’t bring in a stroller to keep Mattson safely confined (particularly while dealing with Gusser’s inconsistent bladder), then I ain’t going in without back-up. PERIOD.
I know it doesn’t sound that bad, but it was the most stressed out meal I’ve had in a long time. I didn’t even get to finish that lunch that I’d been so determined to eat out. Afterwards, we made our stop for bread, bananas, & grapes. After that lunch, it nearly killed me. I’d intended on buying some salmon for dinner, but my tender stomach couldn’t get remotely close to the seafood counter.
Mattson’s cold is such a drag. He refused his morning nap entirely. It took him at least 25 minutes to cry his boogery self down to slumber for the afternoon nap. It wasn’t a good nap for anyone, though – and Mattson was up and crying again in a short time.
I was REALLY happy to meet up with TBU tonight. He bought us all sammies for dinner, a real grocery run at Target, and then a quick spin to Trader Joe’s. Now the boys are asleep and we’re watching some Weeds on DVR while enjoying a piece of dark chocolate.
That’s right Scarlett, tomorrow is another day.
5 Things That Make Me Happy:
- unexpected dinner out
- the pantry is officially replenished
- the boys cleaned up their toys before retiring for the evening
- our DVR is chock-full of goodness
- I haven’t wanted to puke today (with the exception of that trip to the seafood counter, but I’m not counting that one) – this is HUGE!
I’m such a puss. I never go anywhere alone w/ Ryan. I always wait until B is home so we can go as a family. And, now, esp. being pregnant again. I’m pathetic!!! I don’t know how women do it. My sis drags her 2 girls out all the time & says it’s ‘fun’. Yeah, right.

I keep thinking that I’ll take Spawn out for lunch, but then I wuss out. Trying to feed both of us at home is already a challenge. I also haven’t run into the situation of having to go to the bathroom in public. Not sure how all that works….

Taking one out is hard enough. I can’t imagine trying two. You are a brave, brave woman for even attempting it.

I hear ya about the step stool in the restaurant bathroom. Also, dealing with two is so hard. I LOVE those rare restaurants that have the little belted chair in the restroom so you can belt one in while dealing with the other.
