1761 Rainy Wednesday w/ the boys
Saucy Scale: 9
It’s official: I heart my Mothers of Twins group.
When I joined the gang, they had already held their semi-annual consignment sale. I was bummed that I’d missed out on looking at the twin bargains. (Since the next sale is in mid-March, I’m fairly certain I’ll miss out on that one as well.)
Once the "official" consignment sale is over, the members are able to sell their goodies using the group email blast. Last night I happened to be checking my email when I noticed that someone is selling the same stroller that we’re planning to get. Within minutes I’d replied that I would take it. So, it looks as if I’ll be saving us 50% of the price of buying a new stroller! WooHoo!
I know from experience that the frame strollers – where you just snap your infant car seat into the frame – are REALLY lightweight and convenient. I LOVED my single frame stroller that both Gus & Mattson used. I don’t know why Graco hasn’t evolved in this department. Their single frame stroller rocks…how hard is it to get your engineers together and come out with a double frame stroller?
The Single (Graco) The Double (Baby Trend)
We already have a nice big clunky Graco double stroller for when the babies grow out of their infant carrier car seats. (We have the DuoGlider LXI – it’s a double long instead of a double wide stroller.) It’s a great stroller, but when the babies are tiny, the frame strollers are much more manageable – even one-handed from the back of the car. Hopefully the Baby Trend is as easy to use as our old Graco one!
Ok, I know I’m a bit of a snob in this area, but I just cannot deal with buying most baby products used.
When I was preggo with my first child, it came down to wanting nice new shiny things for my nice new shiny baby. After I started selling my old baby stuff, I really had my eyes opened. It’s one thing to pass down a onesie from my own Child #1 to Child #2 – I know where those stains came from and the probable content of those stains. When you buy a used onesie, everyday wear looks worse and ick to those random stains that cannot be identified.
I would consider buying "hard items" used, but you have to be so careful about people selling/misrepresenting items that are recalled & dangerous. Illinois has great laws designed to protect buyers from these dangerous items. But it is pretty much impossible to use those laws on eBay, Craigslist, or at garage sales.
Once I bought a small StepTwo plastic climber/slide for a steal – and then scrubbed it with bleach! There are many toys I would NEVER consider buying used – like stuffed toys (think about the Velveteen Rabbit!) because unless you can scrub something with bleach or wash it on hot in the washing machine…who knows what filth is hiding in there?!?
So yeah, most used stuff just squigs me out when it comes to my babies.
I love a good bargain, but I prefer it be the shiny & new kind.
Oh jeesh!
I just had a phone call from the realtor. Someone wanted to walk thru the house in a mere 25 minutes from now. We’ve got a note on file that asks for 2 hours notice. Twenty-five minutes? You’ve got to be kidding me! I can’t even get the boys (& myself) dressed and out the door in 25 minutes! There is a moderate amount of picking up to be done, but not in 25 minutes!
We had a request for a showing this past Sunday morning. On Saturday night we made sure the house looked great & we took Baby Girl over to Grandpa J’s for the night – so that we wouldn’t have to do it as we were struggling to get out the door on time for church on Sunday morning.
When we got home Sunday afternoon, it was pretty obvious that the realtor hadn’t shown the place. There was no business card left on the counter, the door locks usually look odd when they lock it from the outside, and they usually mess up our light switches. So, TBU called to see if they’d even come by. It was more than a little annoying to learn that they hadn’t.
So yeah, I’m not too jazzed about busting my hump to let you show my house in a mere 25 minute window. You get what I’m saying?
Besides…it’s about nap-time here. I’m much more interested in keeping that appoinment.
I could really go for a burger from McDonald’s right now, but that’s not gonna happen.
5 Things That Make Me Happy:
- We had very lazy morning today. We’re still in our jammies.
- We’re meeting daddy out for dinner tonight.
- Fishy kisses from Mattson
- My Gusser has a very tender heart
- Baby 3.A and Baby 3.B are both swimming around like crazy these days. I love feeling them banging around in there. It’s even more fun to watch my belly quaking while they move around!
it used to drive me crazy when realtors would schedule a showing, i’d straighten and get out of the house and then no one would show. and i didn’t even have babies to get out of the house!

So jealous! We have no Mothers of Twins group here. I might start one, once the overwhelmingness wears off a little. I’m definitely getting the double snap n go. It’s recommended on a ton of twins boards. 🙂

I’m partly convinced that the previous owners took our offer for the house (we were the first offer) because, after a couple of open house weekends, they couldn’t deal with showing their house anymore. They had triplet toddlers.

this is why when i was in real estate, if i had to cancel an appointment i always called the appointment center so that they could let the client know. how irritating.

Selling a house is just such a pain. I remember when we bought our first house we went to look at it and found that our realtor had not called ahead. Surprisingly, they let us walk through anyways. I could tell they were extremely pissed, and rightfully so.

Uhm yeah- NOTICE means NOTICE. Not ‘notice when you feel like and 25 minutes when you dont’ and also, I only buy a few things second hand – sometimes I buy clothing at consignment, but they have really strict rules about what can be sold there, and eventhen I’m really picky and wash it 4954395934589345 times before Sam wears it, but toys? Unless they are hard and plastic and can be soaked in bleach I’m not interested. Also – carseats- WHY would anyone buy a used carseat? It could have been in an accident!

I feel ya on the used items. I’m glad you got the frame stroller on the cheap though. No guck a few Lysol wipes can’t fix.

I drove past “Gus’ Diner” today. There is one in Palatine. I felt like I needed to go steal a menu from it to give to you.

RYN: I was thinking a lot last night about the people he works with and how he must treat them. You know he’s a complete ass to them. Jerk.

RYN: Dragony goodness!!!!! Love it. How are the twins doing? Names? Thoughts? I love reading about you and your belly. LOL!

Yeah, if we hadn’t gotten our stroller as a gift, I would have been all over that Snap N Go.
