Your shampoo causes cancer
And so does your deodorant, face wash, body wash, moisturizer and body lotion. Oh, yeah, virtually every perfume does, too.
Most of the products on the shelves today cause cancer. No, I’m not exaggerating. I’ve been reading a lot lately on products in our foods and in our "health and beauty" products that cause cancer. It’s astounding!!!!!
First and foremost, there are the parabens. Parabens have been linked to breast cancer, and in one UK study done on biopsies of breast tumors, 18 out of 20 of these tumors contained high levels of parabens. Paraben also mimics the hormone estrogen, which can accelerate the formation of tumors (your body produces just the right amount of estrogen…. it’s the *too much* that causes cancer).

The other danger is phthalates. This one is especially harmful to children, and surprisingly, a lot of childrens’ products like baby shampoos contain both phthalates and parabens. Most nail polishes have phthalates, and yes, they do cause birth defects.

Amazingly, even the government-run National Institute of Health jumped in on this one. They’ve got corporate money up the wazoo and they say there’s a link.

And of course, there’s benzene, which is most commonly found in colognes and perfumes. I learned about this compound in Chemistry, but didn’t believe it til I did the research myself.

The problem with benzene is that most perfume producers have their perfume formulae patented (meaning that the ingredients list is kept private to keep people from reproducing the perfume for cheaper), so there’s no way to know whether or not your favorite fragrance has benzene. It probably does, though. Benzene is responsible for fragrance in most things. This is unfortunately. I just don’t wear perfume.

So, with all these carcinogenic products, what can we do? Well, read the ingredients to your products. If you see phthalate-(something) or (something)-phthalate put it back. Same with parabens and benzene.
I recently bought phthalate-free and paraben-free shampoo and conditioner, body wash, nail polish, day moisturizer and night cream.
When I do decide to have children, at least I will know I did my best to keep them safe in my womb. =]
Here are the products I just bought:
- JASON Tea Tree Oil Shampoo http://www.amazon.com/Tree-Therapy-Shampoo-Jason-18oz/dp/B000OV0C08 (I didn’t buy this on Amazon, I got it at http://www.vitacost.com)
- Burt’s Bees Pomegranate conditioner http://www.burtsbees.com/natural-products/hair-conditioners/very-volumizing-pomegranate-soy-conditioner.html (I bought this at the store)
- JASON Lavender Body Wash http://www.internatural-alternative-health.com/ingr/ingr181727.cfm?source=froogle
- Derma E Age Defying Day Creme http://www.iherb.com/Derma-E-Age-Defying-Day-Creme-2-oz-56-g/9973?at=0
- Derma E Age Defying Night Creme http://www.iherb.com/Derma-E-Age-Defying-Night-Creme-2-oz-56-g/12878?at=0
- Derma E Wrinkle Reverse Serum http://www.iherb.com/Derma-E-Peptides-Plus-Wrinkle-Reverse-Serum-2-fl-oz-60-ml/12624?at=0

I bought from Iherb on most of the products. They have the best prices and lowest shipping. Derma E is all-natural so you know it’s safe, it never contains parabens or phthalates, AND it’s never tested on animals. I don’t really *need* Anti-aging right now, but this is more of a preventative measure. =]
Google paraben-free and phthalate-free products. I guarantee you’ll find a slew of products for them. There’s a reason that there’s a market for these products, peeps. Why do you think that is?
front page. We can change our products, but then we have what’s going into our food, water and what’s floating around in the air. lol
