Lifting for 5-18-9

The girl’s taking a three-week compressed class. It works in my favor because it means she’ll be leaving around noon. Which means, if I’m smart, I’ll leave for the gym around a similar time. I tend to get really demotivated once classes let out. I’m feeling it already. Or maybe it’s lack of motivation for THESE workouts. They’re hard! Part of me wants to lift heavy things. But another part of me wants to keep working on my goal of being able to jog three miles. Concurrent with that, I’d like to continue my quest to see what happens if I drop my bodyfat.

So. I’ll do my next workout and see how I feel then. I may be able to convince myself that it’s “only” four more weeks. Just finish what I started, so to speak. I’m almost 2/3 there.

    NROL, Fat Loss II
    Day A, Workout XI

    Rest: 30 sec between exercises

    Alternating Sets
    BB Front Squat: 3×8 @ 105 lbs
    T-Bar Row: 3×8 @ 90 lbs

    Alternating Sets
Supine Hip Extension with Leg Curl: 3×8 @ BW
    BB Push Press: 3×8 @ 85 lbs

    Alternating Sets
    DB Dynamic Lunges: 3×8 @ 25 lbs
Upper Body Russian Twist: 3×8 @ BW

Metabolic Overdrive: 4 rounds on elliptical (1 minute hard, 2 minutes recovery)

I was done with the brunt of the workout in about half an hour. That’s it! Man, it goes fast. I kept telling myself, “Just do it, it’s the last of this workout.”

The intervals weren’t necessarily bad, I just couldn’t seem to push myself very hard. My quads didn’t feel the brunt today, moreso my hamstrings. Hrm. According to NROL, I should “progress” to 5 intervals for the next phase. But that just seems counterproductive. I’m thinking if I do add another interval or two, that I should SHORTEN the intervals so I can operate at a higher intensity. At least, makes sense in theory.

Also, next phase, I’d like to see if I could find time to jog 4 or even 5 times a week. I may need a couple days off before I jump into it, but I’d like to see if I can find that next level. Cliff always did tell me he’d lose his conditioning if he took a single day off. Makes me curious.

Speaking of which, I said I’d pick him up around 4 PM. I’m right on schedule.

I saw my md last week. I’ll tell you what he told me about the cardio: “Keep at it, it takes time to build endurance. Be nice to yourself.” I want to send you a good pair of running shoes. The difference is amazing. I think I should have purchased the NROL instead of the NROLFW. I think I’m going to check out the NROL from the Library to see if it’s worth the purchase.

ryn: I love my saucony Shadows, but it depends on your feet. Go to Runner’s world and do the shoe finder. What are your arches like, how much do you weigh and do you pronate or supinate. Enter the answers to those questions and it will spit out a list of appropriate shoes. I then go try them on at local store and order them online cheaper, but I have wide feet and widths are hard to find irl. FYI,Under Armour quality sucks, Brooks rock, and my husband loves his Mizunos. If you have a DSW near you, you might find a good price.
