under the pale moon light…

there was a power shortage that affected southern cal earlier today.
just until now, electricity was restored.
it’s a relief actually.

7 hours earlier,
power went out & we immediately at work started blaming each other for fun. my co-worker soon came over and said sorry for tripping over a power cord and caused the outage. one person yelled out “the mother ship has landed.” with another responding “yeah, they’re finally coming for you.” while another said not so loud, “uh huh, anal probes…”

6 hours earlier,
turns out that leaving work right away turned out to be a bad idea. people leaving the same area has made a huge traffic jam since traffic lights all around san diego didn’t work.

i’d decided that fighting traffic wasn’t going to work for me.

found a place with some shade and a hint of breeze which i started reading an illustration like book of dragons that i had in my backpack for the longest time.

best story i remember reading is about a guy out at sea fishing where moments later he accidentally caught a turtle. he’d released it without a second thought since turtles are known in legend to live more than a millennium. after a long day fishing, he fell asleep and that’s when the turtle came back waking him up. the turtle spoke to him and was amazed that it turned out to be a princess in turtle form. it was actually a test and granted him immortality and offered herself to him.

his life soon after was like living and experiencing life in a land where the four seasons existed all at once. but seeing this type of life, he started to remember his past and his family. he told his wife he wanted to see them once again. he only wanted to visit them for one day because his wife didn’t want him to leave. his longing for his family was too great so he went. but before he left his wife gave him a jeweled box as a reminder of her and their love. she tied it with a silk thread and told him to not untie it or open it for any reason. he promised and traveled back to his village. as soon as he arrived, everything he remembered, everything he had known, had disappeared. he asked what happened and found out that a young man who lived in their village had drowned at sea fishing and it turned out to be three hundred years ago. one day in paradise turned out to be three hundred years in his ordinary life. his family, his old life, had long since passed away. his name turned out to be his. he was this young man so many years ago.

feeling such sorrow, he headed back to magical place where it all started and started to remember the place where “the leaves of the trees were like emeralds and the berries like rubies.” looking out at the sea, he noticed it changed. it became lifeless and hoped that his wife was calling to him. but no avail. suddenly he remembered the gift she gave him before left back home. he thought by opening it there might a sign on how to go back to his wife. back to his wife’s side once again.

but the moment he had opened it, he found himself a very old man, along with white hair and a long beard. he died upon reaching shore.

i decided it was enough time to go home.
the ride home was hellacious because not a single traffic light was still working making my to the highway home like a crap shoot

i made it home.
home sweet home.
still no electricity.

me & brother could only talk about fantasy football since we’re missing the first game of the year

it’s hot & humid this time of night, that looking at the pale moon light made it cool

now…
…the fan is on
my bed is calling…
…hoping what happened earlier made any sense
hoping…
…sleep becomes me
