Brought our son back to college
Summer break is over, our daughter is back in High School as a senior and we drove our son back to USC in LA last Monday. It is about a six hour drove from San Jose, it is not too bad. He moved out of the dorm so we had to get him some extra furniture such as a bed and a drawer, which we got at IKEA in Burbank. The bed was bigger than we thought, it fit into our car but we had to lower the backseats. My son could still fit in a space on the floor, it was very tight, it felt like driving a fugitive around town. Assembly went off without problems, and then we had a nice farewell dinner at a restaurant in the LA Live area. We got back home yesterday. It is odd, but this second year it feels like I miss my son more now than the first time we sent him off. Maybe it is because we enjoyed having him around during the summer. Next year this time our daughter will be gone as well. I’d better think of some new hobbies or more demanding work.

IKEA rocks for college student furnishings! I can relate about missing your child more, when I moved daughter to a rental her second year, I knew she probably wouldn’t be coming back to live at my house anymore and that’s what made it sad. But it’s also good to see them being independent and taking responsibility too. So it has its pluses and minuses.

RYN: Actually that’s a great reason to vote out the GOP right there — they were elected in 2010 specifically because they promised to fix the economy, yet haven’t even bothered to try.

Empty nest syndrome coming up maybe, how’s the injury?

ryn- thanks 🙂 if only it were so easy to make japanese friends! if you have time you can read the article and comments here- http://www.debito.org/?p=8933 -it’s exceedingly difficult for most foreigners to make real, authentic japanese friends. they are either too intimidated by me… or just find me a novelty (which will wear off eventually). or they just want to practice their english. bleh
