American Idol: British Invasion
Ok, I’m ready for this.
Haley — Tell Him — That is NOT a British Invasion song — what’s the deal? They are already disappointing me. That said, it was probably her best performance, except she seemed a little breathless, and sounded like she had to race to keep up in places.
Chris R — Don’t Let the Sun Catch You Crying — Oy! Those were not all the right notes – no no no. I’m liking him less and less — he has a very boy band voice, which I hate. I bit nasal or something? I have to agree with Peter/Herman’s comments — stick with the melody, dude. Did he tell Simon he didn’t know the song? What?
Stephanie — You Don’t Have to Say You Love Me — Great song. Was she nervous or losing her voice? Something was off and marred a good performance. I didn’t like the whine she inserted a few times in the first stanza. I liked when she got stronger. But something was off.
Blake – Time of the Season — First of all, he should have sung She’s Not There. He sang it pretty well. Damn that stupid beat box. Well sung.
LaKisha — Diamonds Are Forever — How could she not sing You’re My World, one of the most fabulous 60s songs ever. Ok, back to this, which I don’t like, having never been a Shirley Bassey fan. This performance did nothing for me. I guess it was well sung, but after I got You’re My World into my head, anything else would have been a disappointment. And she would have brought down the house. Simon’s right — it was an "old" performance.
Phil — Tobacco Road — Not crazy about this song, but I’ll give him a chance. I guess he sang it well, but I didn’t care. He kind of annoys me. Couldn’t wait for him to finish.
Jordin — I Who Have Nothing — Not a Brit song, but a wonderful song nonetheless. Fabulous performance — the best of the night so far. Gave me a chill. Good for her. I had to go back and listen again — loved it.
Sanjaya — You Really Got Me — Uh oh, it’s the 8 year olds voting for Sanjaya — did you see that weepy little girl? Personally I think her mother pinched her really hard before he started. Who tarted Sanjaya up tonight? I liked his outfit. And he actually sang with some spunk for a change. And he had a cute little girly dance going on. Good for him. Hmmm, I don’t know if that little girl likes him or is terrified out of her wits.
Gina — Paint It Black — Hmmm, not an easy song to sing. And she’s not doing such a great job. She didn’t sell it. This kind of sucked for me. Actually, more than kind of.
Chris S. — She’s Not There — This guy has a good voice, but he doesn’t truly invest himself in the song. Why is he carrying the mike stand?
Melinda — As Long as He Needs Me — Again, not Brit Pop. Chris Sligh needs to watch her sing and see how she puts feeling and meaning in a song. What’s with that damn crying kid again! ;( Well sung, Melinda, but we’ve come to expect that. Very good. She and Jordin stood out tonight, with Melinda still way ahead.
Interesting night. For me Phil, Chris R and Gina should be nervous. Who knew Sanjaya could scoot off my bad list for a night? Hey, maybe he lost his virginity since the last show maybe?
So what did you all think?
P. S.. I think that crying brat was faking it — did you see her stop crying when she saw herself in the monitor? Hmmph!
