Weekend Recap: Saturday (The Wedding)
Saturday was the big day, and here are the details as best as I can remember them:
6:30am – Ethan woke up rather late, and I say this because if you went by Island time, it’s 7:30am and that’s pretty late for him to wakt up. I turned the station to his favorite kids station and he was pre-occupied until breakfast was served.
8:00am – Dad went out to fill up the car and ended up coming back with breakfast which consisted of fast food car of Rotten Ronnie’s. He picked up McMuffins and hashbrowns for everyone. Ethan ate his hashbrown but wasn’t too fussy about his McMuffin. He ate the English Muffin part but pretty much left the egg alone. He prefers them scrambled or in omelet form I guess…
9:00am – Everyone was running around the house, and packing what we only needed for that night. While I had literally fuck all to pack, I concentrated on take care of the kids and making Jonathan’s formula… making sure there was enough to last until the next day. We went at this for pretty much the next hour or so.
10:30am – With everything packed and all our nice stuff tucked away nicely, we set off for the hotel. I’ll have to admit this ride out was mure more pleasant the the one the day before. I was a tad impatient after being on a plane for a few hours. This time out it was much more relaxed and easy going.
11:35am – We arrived to the hotel to hit our first of many snags. Our reservation said our rooms would be ready at noon, but only one was ready and the other wouldn’t be ready until 3pm. To make things worse, we wanted rooms that were joing together and were instead booked to have rooms across the hall from each other. Dad wasn’t impressed, but we moved everything into the one room that was available.
12:00pm – It was around this point where tempers were starting to pop like firecrackers. The room was nice, and clean… but there were a few things missing. The first was a bar fridge. Now while I wasn’t in the mood for alcohol or munchies, what I didn’t need was a place to put Jonathan’s formula to keep it cold. With no microwave, there was also nothing there for me to heat up the bottles. But there was one available at the front desk so while it would require a little walking, I was all right with that. But the one thing that set me off was the crib, or the lack of one for Jonathan to sleep in. With this, my Mom and Dad went back to the desk to voice their complaints. I stayed up above and did my best to keep my cool.
1:00pm – Rather quickly, some people came up with a small fridge and placed it in the room. They also came up with a crib. Well, to them it was a crib… but to me it was anything but. It was a play pen, which for me was useless since I wasn’t comfortable putting a three month old baby one of things just yet. After giving the people who came up a harsh lecture on the difference between a crib and a play pen, I kicked them out of the room.
1:30pm – At this point, the manager appeared at my door to deliver some information. The other room was now available and he provided the keys. He apologized for the playpen, and said it was all they had to provide for the baby. At this point, I already devised a plan for the kids. I would put Ethan in the playpen when he crashed for the night, and Jonathan would stick with the comfort of his carseat and that will do the trick for the night. But to apologize for the inconvience, he provided us with four passes for tomorrow’s breakfast buffet… which was pretty nice of him.
2:25pm – While getting dressed for the Wedding, Ethan crawled onto the bed and passed out. One thing Leah and I learned from past experience is that you leave Ethan alone when he crashes. The last thing we wanted was a cranky two year old disrupting the wedding. So since Leah needed a lot of time to get ready. Fact was, the wedding was set to start at 3:30 and they way Ethan crashed pretty much meant he was gone for at least two hours. Since Leah didn’t want to rush to get ready, she said she would wait for Ethan and meet up at the reception. I would take Jonathan who was dressed, all smiles and ready to go. My Mom and Dad were still waiting for my older brother Chris, so it was just me and the little guy.
3:00pm – I took Jonathan down to the lobby, and called for a cab to take us to the wedding. While we were waiting, I bumped into my Aunt Grace and my Cousin Anne. It’s been a while since I had seen them both and introduced them to my son. Out of shear charity, I offered to share my cab if they needed a ride, but my Aunt said that’s okay, we have a car and we’re going now. And then they left. Remind me to mention what a hag that old bitch is, will you? So we waited a few more minutes for our chariot, and were off.
3:25pm – Jonathan and I arrived five minutes before the wedding was supposed to get underway. The ride out to the hall put Jonathan to sleep and he napped through the entire ceremony, which was cool cause I got to relax and enjoy the ceremony, which was pretty cool.
4:00pm – After the wedding, the hall where it was held was also where the recepiton was. Everyone left the hall and wined and dined in the other room while the reception hall was set up. Jonathan woke up so I help him and introduced the little dude to everyone. He was quiet and sweet, and warmed everyone’s heart in his little tux.
5:00pm – After getting a little help from my Mom and Chris who helped carry Jonathan around to help with the burden, Leah finally arrived with Ethan and they both looked amazing. Leah was stunning in her new dress, and Ethan looked sharp in his suit. Just after they arrived, we were able to take a seat and dinner started.
Dinner: During this time, my brother Chris and I took turns taking care of Ethan. While the little guy had a bit to eat, he wanted to be on the dance floor where the rest of the kids where allowed to play while the adults were eating. We had some amazing foods, starting with a buffet of appitizers, right through the main courses. Ethan wasn’t at the table too long to enjoy anything and most of his food was eaten during the appetizers. But I enjoyed having a break every now and then when Chris was taking care of Ethan for me. He was a real godsent during the reception as Leah and Mom took care of Jonathan during supper. He wasn’t too hard to take care of as I had the bar keep one of his bottles in the fridge. Then halfway through supper he had the bottle and went back to sleep.
We got to listen to great speeches, watch the first few dances and Leah and I even managed to get a few dances in. By the time the actually dinner was over, a few hours had passed by. Ethan was still hopping on the dance floor and was like a machine. He didn’t want to stop and was just pure energy… something his mother took full credit for. It wasn’t for another few hours did Ethan finally start to show signs of fatigue. Since I had volunteered to work the night shift, I didn’t drink too much and thought it was time to head back. My older brother Chris who doesn’t drink at all, voluteered to come with us and help out. He likes weddings, but doesn’t get to see the nephews a lot and wanted to hang out with them as much as he could.
10:00pm Around this time is when we returned to the hotel. Jonathan was zonked out and snoring away but it took Ethan another two hours to go to sleep himself. It was a wild day, but it went rather well considering all we went through. I myself crashed around midnight, but was up again a few times that night for feedings and other things.
So that in a nutshell is what happened on the wedding day. I’ll be back tomorrow to spill the guts of my last day in TO.
