December first
Got up this morning an hour and a half later than the rest of the week. I knew the papers would be fat this weekend, and the text from my boss indicated that we’d be loading at 8 am. Yeah, right, I thought, so I started the water for the coffee and sat down to write a completely different entry. It passed seven, so I called the paper and found that there were just three distributors ahead of me.
Oh shit, time to go! Right now!
I poured the coffee into a car mug and took off and my number came up just minutes after I got there. 154 bundles of papers today; surprisingly for fives, they were neat and well bundled, and I was out of there by 8. I was loading on chute 13, which has a new belt on it; the papers were shooting down almost too fast to stack neatly in my stepvan, but I got ’em all in and off I went to meet the other driver.
Oh, the stepvan. I was sort of bitching yesterday that in the snow, it’s less than fun to drive, and found this morning that it has snow tires all around on it now, with studded snows on the front. The way the news was talking last night, it was going to be sort of a horrorshow for driving this morning. Crews were out all night de-icing the roads and especially the bridges, and my boss left a "Please drive cautiously" note in the stepvan for me.
Ha! It wasn’t very far above freezing this mornning, but it wasn’t below either, and the roads were good – I had no trouble driving around today. In fact, it only snowed a bit, and that was after I had already finished 2/3rds of the route. It didn’t stick at all – melted as it hit the ground, and was just a teaser anyway – it stopped almost as soon as it began.
I ran the route differently than usual, and am done way before noon; in fact, I finished in record time for fives. It’s nice to be wrong occaisionally. I know it’s a big surprise to everyone, but every so often the Cat is wrong, and he’s happy to admit it.
I have extra papers today; one of my racks disappeared, so I grabbed a paper for my friends A & J and am going to their house right after I finish this short entry.
(it is a short one for me, lol)
I was wrong about the eye candy situation too; runners and bikers look good in those form fitting outfits they wear nowadays, and I collected some smiles too from various women with compliments on the way they looked. Scored a few points with the Korean girl at one of my stops – I have been to Korea, you know, and mentioned going to Pusan and the huge fish market there.
Heh.
Off I go, after I take care of Blacky Cat, who’s meowing at me to do something or or other.
Oh, by the way, it looks like I’ll have my papers tonight at 12:30, not 3 like last week. It’s looking like a good weekend – I hope yours is too.

Well, the roads are quite interesting here to drive on but I made it out there and back twice, it seems to be tapering off now. I guess the worry was for my sister who was riding a greyhound bus today from Chi to Madison and I don’t know what happened but the driver of a vehicle is dead and 8 from the bus went to hospital including I think my sis, she is calling me back with details soon.

She is being put up in a hotel now I guess. Glad she is ok, when it rains it pours.

I only really need my snow tires to get in and out of my driveway. Glad the roads are ok for you there.
