Friday…snow day
5:30 am
School’s been snow day-ed all week, so it’s with no surprise I don’t see my district on the list of closed school this morning.
It heated up enough to rain yesterday, so when it refroze last night, there’s a lot of ice around now. I see it snowed a little bit last night. Nearly every other district is closed already…. but mine is not, so I’ll leave oh, ten minutes earlier than usual and venture out, at 15 miles an hour or so, because (still) I don’t have tire chains.
(It seems like no matter how much I make, it’s gone right away)
Portland just called a snow day. Mayve we’re being called in so we can clock in and get that 2 -4 hours of pay… cuz we only had three snow days in the contract.
A two hour delay, at least. If it looks like this in the west side of the district, the east side will be a mess. This weekend (and the paper NEVER takes any snow days) looks to be…. interesting.
Nope, the crawler along the bottom of the tv screen had "north" this and that, but no "North Clackamas" listed for snow closures, so… I’ll go out and brush off the windows and go drive the four miles to the barn and… go clock in.

8 am.
I did drive to the barn. No one else was there. The back gate and the front gate were both closed and locked, and all of our buses sat under their light coating of snow. I didn’t have any problems driving… SLOWLY.
It’s those other idiots I worry about.
I stopped at McDonalds near work, and had breakfast indoors. I stepped out to have a smoke with my coffee and watched the other drivers navigate in the snow, then drove home.
No trouble getting around in my Caliber… but there are many idiots out on the road today, and I’m glad to be at home in my warm apartment.
So ends 2008 for the schools. 3 weeks of Winter Break instead of two. We’ll be workin’ a couple of days in June past the "end" of the school year, especially if this happens again.
Now the thing to do is wait for the Direct Deposit Tuesday, go buy some real good chains (BiMart had a set of cable chains that’d fit my tires, but cable chains? Nah.) If I’m gonna get traction devices for the car I’m going to keep for years, I want some GOOD chains.
Maybe this bad weather will be out of the way driving down to SoCal. Maybe that four feet of snow on Big Bear will recede and I’ll get in and out of there, no problems.
By the way, I want points for trying. Trying to go to work this morning and trying to get to Big Bear and for trying to see the family.
The photo paper I bought was too thick for the printer – "HP Advanced Photo Paper". The "Premium" stuff is a little thinnner and works great through my printer – got lots of 8 x 10’s to give as gifts… and good pictures taken too.
