Mt. Tabor in January

Today’s epedition was to Mt. Tabor, a volcanic cone/city park in the city of Portland.  There are three reservoirs for the city water system here; all of them were lower than I’ve seen before and one was nearly empty.  There are good views of Downtown Portland here – views that my camera does not catch as well as my eyes did:

The camera did catch the reservoirs very well:

This is downtown Portland, Oregon.

The reddish building downtown is the COIN Center Tower*.  The tall white building near it is the Wells Fargo Tower.

*NEVER park in the garage under the building – it is VERY TIGHT.  I backed into a cement post here in my car – a week before my first car payment was due.  On the one hand, I did find out that a lot of the back of my car is flexible plastic and just moves out of the way, but on the other, I had to buy some Dodge touch-up paint to cover the metal exposed by the paint flaking off above that plastic.

The structure at the far end of the reservoir is the pump house.  I have never seen this reservoir filled, but this is much lower than I have seen before.

This is the smallest of the three reservoirs.

This is the lower reservoir.  Harrison St. is just south of this body of water, and there are access points to this park from there as well as streets all around the volcanic knob.

There are 119 pictures to post, out of the 160 I took.  There are not 41 bad pictures, just 41 I don’t need to use here.

Photobucket now gives me the option of using Thumbnail Galleries – I wll try that and see how it works out.

Stay tuned.

One more:

Yes.  It was COLD.

Oh wow, what a sight! I always saw the reservoirs filled to the brim, but of course, that was 45 years ago. I love those reservoirs so much! The big one, the one closest to Division street used to have a fountain display in it, and at night, rainbow colored lights would shine on it. I used to bundle up in winter and ride my bicycle there, just to watch the colors on the water. Thank you!!

And, btw, you do indeed look a tad chilled, Cat. 🙂 It’s great to see the Coin Center Tower, too. I always liked that building, as well as the train station. However, my territory was the southeast, and Mt. Tabor was the heart of my area. Can’t thank you enough for these photos Cat–they are wonderful!!! (((((((((((NWC)))))))))))))

love the pics gotta ask a off the wall question ‘how Do you guys keep those hats on your heads?!?! they don’t seem like they’d stay put very well lol’

It’s actually freezing down here for the third time this season. Next week or so, the temp will be back up to 60 – 70. Finally loaded a browser that is compatible with Flash. I was skeered at first because of the virus that destroyed the other computer. But now I can view videos and Google’s street views are again working so I can look all over Texas, street by street. So fun
