a short report

Sleep and medication

I was taking Zoloft and Ritalin, generics of each this time around. Zoloft helped me ten years ago, and it seems to be now too. The Ritalin was the idea of my new counselor; she says it often helps focus a damaged brain with signs of ADHD.

Well.

I was beginning to keep ridiculous hours – in bed by 7 am and up by 5 pm? Wtf? I was experiencing, not to put too fine a point on it, diarrhea. It felt good otherwise, but I’m not a vampire and neither is most of the rest of the world. And the bathroom issues – well, they never came up away from home, tg, but, not so good, eh?

My biker friend is like my big brother – he said, in different words, stop taking that stuff. The Zoloft, ok, but the other? Don’t take it, you don’t have to.

So, I didn’t yesterday. I went to bed at 3 am, still late, but woke up BEFORE the alarm at 9 am, had and have had no bathroom issues, and I feel pretty good, with just the Zoloft.

The mail FINALLY came on Saturday, but well past the credit union’s closing time, so I had to do it today, and made a great loop of tasks to do; I got some bread at the Franz Bakery thrift store (yum!  BEST bread in Portland); went to the credit union and made a payment on the car and cashed the TC that K* sent, and went to my bank, made a payment on the credit card and deposited my b-day money in the checking account. I’ll go get some Clear Super gas, straight,100% gasoline and not the E10 almost everyone is required to sell; the car gets better mileage on straight gas.  It’ll be happy.

It’s gray and Oregon-like outside; it’s not really raining but it is NOT dry – I have to drive down to OC to see my friend, so it’ll be a nice cruise on River Road.

I love my Caliber.

One last thing:

Black Cali came with a Satellite Radio receiver and a year’s paid access. Times were better in the past, and I renewed the contract a couple of times, but it lapsed last year as an unnecessary expense. I was home from my great circle just now and sitting in the parking lot and just for the hell of it, pushed the satellite radio button, expecting to hear the ad, repeated, on just one station, telling me that I should call or go online to get reception.

That did not happen.

All of my presets are back, all of my favorite Satellite stations, out of the 132 stations available, are back, and my Satellite Radio works, and sounds great.

Black Cali is Nation-Wide again.

the time of day you take it and a couple of other things can affect GI issues and sleep issues, both. I had to take Effexor in the morning and I have to take Prozac at night because of how they affect my sleep. Worth thinking about it if you feel like trying again. And also, sometimes those side effects even out after a week or two – they’re generally not long-term effects.

YOu’re sounding better. I like it when things turn out for you.

I agree with woman in the moon, you ARE sounding better, and that makes me glad. Sometimes I feel like you’re the kid I never had (even though we aren’t that close–guess it’s your style of writing) and I feel I am gentically engineered to worry about the Cat Who Walks Alone. lol!

I’m glad you can listen to music when you drive again. It makes things so much more enjoyable.

Didn’t know you were taking a form of Ritalin. My husband has ADD and took it as a teen. He said it’s an upper, and for people without ADD/ADHD, it’s not unlike taking speed. (With ADD/ADHD, he said it actually works like a downer. *shrug*) No wonder it was messing you up! I agree with your biker friend. Might want to avoid the Ritalin.

perhaps you should take the advice of a doctor not a friend. there may be another medicine that won’t cause the side effects you are having. wonder what’s going on with your satellite radio? guess they forgot to turn it off? or for some odd reason turned it back on? doesn’t matter, enjoy it while you can. take care,

I would tell your Dr that you’ve quit the one med though

Sounds just dandy! 🙂 A lot of the psych meds mess with your sleep schedule and your bathroom regions. *shrugs* Nature of the beast. Light of heart,

ritalin is not a nice drug. Glad you are doing ok without it. Very best wishes, A

They’re currently running a “trial period” on the SiriusXM. At least that’s what I heard (I get it with my Dish subscription, and I LOVE it). I’ve often thought that if people stopped taking all the medications they are taking and then add just what they need, they’d be better off. For example, my mother was taking medication for hot flashes until very recently. She is 82 years old! WTF!
