I was mistaken plus

Turns out that jewellery store advertising that they buy silverware is not interested in my mom’s sliver plate Oneida silverware.  They only want solid silver.

I guess I don’t have anything worth anything.

It’s a 1946 pattern, Queen Bess, and I have nearly a complete set, but if I can’t sell it, it is worth nothing.

With the credit card over limit and payment due immediately and not even half the amount due to my name, I guess I’m in trouble.

Plus:

In a few of the notes, people recommend placing it online or going to antique stores. I did put it on ebay two years ago and got minimal response to the set of silverware.  I live in the antiques section of Portland, and suppose I’ll have to go check it out, but the biggest store is just a place that provides space for antiques to sell, by individuals. I know mom loved that silverware – part of the reason I’ve kept it since 1977, when she died, and I was hoping it was worth something.  Replacement Flatware lists none of the set for less than 8 bucks a piece and some, that I have, are listed at 50 – 60 dollars each, but figures on paper don’t mean squat unless they are numbers on a check.

and thank god for anti-depressants!

Advertise on line. People will pay big prices for the pieces one at a time, if they are filling in an antique pattern they have. Look up Antique Flatware or Replacement Flatware for an idea of the prices. A fifties pattern I have is going for $30 a fork. Yes, it’s Oneida silver plate. You have something someone is just longing for.

I agree with KatrenCoyote. Try selling it online. You could also try local antique/vintage stores.

i am so sorry to hear this. I was feeling down about my daughter’s situation until i read your entries. I agree w/the other noters about trying to sell the “good silverware” on-line. It might not be silver, but there are people who want what you have ((hugs))

After selling so much stuff I’d kept for yrs I started using things and enjoying it instead of keeping it packed away. If you can’t find a buyer for the flatware at least USE it in honor of yr mom. I bet it will improve the taste of those Ramen Noodles! LOL! I was actually eating expired canned goods from my moms bunker for about a year to save $. Perspective IS everything.

Nuts, nuts, nuts! You can only do what you can, I wish the best for you regarding this. I saw Meredith Veria and her husband, a writer who has MS on Dr. OZ. He said he lied about his health so as not to get shunned from jobs. It may be time for you to find anyone who’d hire you and not say a word about your challenges, survival mode. All the best to you.

Don’t know if you have a facebook account but I notice a lot of people sell things there, they also have “local” facebook pages with a virtual yard sale feel to them…Easy to post pictures too…Wish you well. 🙂
