First Half of the Weekend

Yesterday was rainy as predicted and today looks like more of the same.  I went out for a haircut (getting less all the time but still the same price). I bought 10 more bags of mulch and 10 bags of topsoil. I’ve never bought soil in a bag before but after comparing prices and convenience it made the most sense. A 40 lb bag costs $.99. If I buy less than 2 yards it’s more expensive because of the delivery charge.

I put out most of the mulch until I got tired. I dug up the rest of the hostas on the east side of the house (since my dingbat neighbor cut down all the trees there is no shade and the plants don’t do well). I don’t know what I’ll do with them. I can’t believe how much they’ve reproduced since I separated them last year.

Then I fixed the plastic molding in the trunk of the Alero. (Part that covers the latch and you bang everytime you put something heavy into the trunk) It was originally attached with 4 plastic tabs molded into the bottom side. They stick into metal clips with barbs that hold them in place. It’s easy to assemble at the factory and it works fine until you bang the part and the tabs all break.. I didn’t bother to price a new one. I expect it would be near $75. I removed the metal retaining clips and then bought some plastic wall anchors. The auger type that screw in as you tighten the screw into the center of them. I drilled 4 small holes in the plastic molding and – zip – everything went together beautifully. It looks great  and should last as long as the car.

This morning I spread 8 of the 10 bags of top soil. There were 2 low spots on my front yard that have been botherin me for ages. (My anal retentive side again). I filled them and spread grass seed. Then I filled a few holes in the back yard until I felt like taking a break.

It’s now 10:30am and I’m done resting. I’ve read the paper, fed the critters, printed off the Diana exhibit downtown (may visit) and written this entry. Now I’ll get a shower and decide what do do with the 2nd half of my 3-day weekend.

Namaste

RYN: Thank you – your note was kind. Pennsyltucky is just Pennsylvania, although the part I go to is very rural. During my childhood we didn’t have a phone for much of the time, or an indoor bathroom. The rotary phones were still in the telephone booths even just five years ago. So I call it Pennsyltucky – silly, I know.
