The Same, But Different

Surreptitiously, I’m furious.
I feel as if I’ve crossed into a parallel universe; like I was so busy counting the cracks in the sidewalk that I failed to even notice when a passerby placed a black hole in my path. And I tripped (unknowingly) right through this black hole; and when I stood back up, everything had changed.
No, everything was the same – that’s what angered me most; the sidewalk was still there (presumably laced with the same cracks), the sky was still blue, and the grass was still green. Everything looked the same, but it wasn’t. It wasn’t the same. And I felt betrayed by this.
