‘Cause Rocky Rocks. That’s Why.

I’m done school. Finally. The last two years, I’ve had three weeks off. Now that I’m done, I’m not too sure what to do with myself. I’ve got a bunch of things I want to do before I start again in August.

I’d list all of ’em, but I keep getting distracted by the Rocky movie I got playing in the background here. That, and it’s not all that interesting.

Have I ever mentioned just how much I love the Rocky movies?

They. Fucking. Rock.

Everything about them is made of awesome. Well, except for the Tommy Gunn anomaly. I’m not too sure what the fuck that was about.

But they got the always excellent Burgess Meredith as Mickey, dropping truth like it’s going out of style

Mickey: Your nose is broken.
Rocky: How does it look?
Mickey: Ah, it’s an improvement.

Mickey: Women weaken legs

Mickey: You’re a bum, Rock. You’re a bum.

Mickey: You know what you are?
Rocky: No, what?
Mickey: A tomato.
Rocky: A tomato?
Mickey: Yeah, and I’m running a business here, not a goddamn soup kitchen.

They’ve also got some of the greatest villians in the form of Clubber Lang and Ivan Drago

Then there are the training montages that make you get right into it. I remember watching them when I was a kid. I’d get so excited. "Yea, yea, yea!! Rocky, rocky!!" Even now, it’s hard not to get into. Sure, it all seems like a string of cliches now but who gives a shit. They are 5 movies (I’m not counting Rocky 5, because that’s the only one that sucks) of pure unadulterated fun.

And who can forget Adrian? Like the saying goes, "behind every good man is an even better woman". Without Adrian there’d be no Rocky. Like in the fourth movie when Rocky goes to Russia to Ivan Drago. He’s struggling to get his head into it, because Adrian was against the fight. But then she shows up in Russia and she says "I’m with you…no matter what". He asks "No matter what?" and she repeats "No matter what". And from there, it’s on. Adrian fucking rocks too.

I realize this makes sound like a gigantic geek, but whatever. I care not.

So, to top it off…here is Survivor’s Eye of the Tiger

Rocky = the awesome. Period.

omg, it’s like I could’ve written this entry.. with my brother. we’re both HUGE Rocky fans. Like….really. And I agree about Rocky V and everything. Truth be told, I wasn’t a huge fan of Rocky IV either, but mainly cause of it’s production value (way too 80s/”dated”). The other ones are classic and timeless. I have a great video of me running the Rocky Steps if you wanna see it sometime.

oh, and you forgot “You gotta eat lighting and you gotta crap thunder!”

whenever anyone mentions Rocky movies I think of that Simpsons episode where Bart gets stuck in the tiger’s cage at the zoo and he has to remember his roman numerals lesson from school to get out. He hadn’t paid attention so he says “Rocky V plus Rocky 2 equals Rocky 7 – Adrian’s Revenge!” oh that craps me up.

You know…I’ve only seen one Rocky movie…and it was the one with the Russian dude and that’s pretty much all I remember about it. Perhaps I should sit and watch them? I can have a movie marathon.
