CoH CoS (Chapter 33)

Damien moved through the thick of battle. A mix of sweat and blood streamed down his face. Rage and power pulsed in his aura. He swept through Randon like a hurricane. His lightsabers flashed and pulsed as they flew through the air. Chip fought to his left and Anita to his right. They pushed against the force. Chip raised his saber and shouted a battle cry, pushing the combined Knight and Arias forces forward. Damien bled from a half dozen wounds, but he was oblivious to the pain. Knight magic flashed and crackled in the air. A group of Randon surrounded Damien. He thrust his sabers outward and shouted words of magic. Lightning streamed from his body into the surrounding Randon. They screamed as they fell, blackened and burnt almost beyond recoginition. Damien charged back into the line. The rage in his aura increased as he saw a Randon wielding a Knight lightsaber. He jumped into the air and screamed as he flew down, he sabers thrust downward. The Randon tried to move out of the way but too late. Damien’s sabers impaled the Randon to the hilt. He looked to his right, his Knight sense flaring. He saw Anita flip back and away from a Randon wielding a battle ax. Her staff lay broken on the ground. Without pausing, he grabbed the Knight saber from the dead Randon and threw it toward her. Anita caught it as she landed in crouch from the flip. The Randon raised the ax over its head. Anita activated the saber and swung. The Randon flew back, cut in half. Damien and Anita looked at each other before charging back into battle. The charge continued on for what seemed like hours. Finally the sun broke through dark storm clouds to light the battlefield. Damien dropped to one knee with a groan, shutting down his sabers. Anita walked over to him slowly.

“You okay?” she said, offering her hand.

Damien nodded and took her hand, rising up slowly.

“Thanks for the help earlier.” Anita said, offering him the lightsaber.

Damien looked at the saber, then at her.

“Keep it, you might need it again later.”

She nodded and clipped it to her belt.

“Who’s was it?”

She saw no expression in his face, but saw the smoldering in his eyes.

“It was Sergio’s.”

“When will it end?”

“Soon. The Randon are running out of troops. But the war is getting ugly, nevertheless. The vetreans are holding up well, but I’m not sure how much more of this the cadets can take. Seeing only a third of their friends come back is not easy on them.”

“It’s not easy on any of us. Come on, let’s go.”

Damien nodded and took her offered hand, walking off toward the command post together.
