Have yourself a very beachy Christmas

We made it!!! We’re in Charleston!!! And, ummm, it’s really really cold, for Charleston, and it’s probably going to rain tomorrow so good thing we’re leaving, and apparently we are ANCIENT because we actually went back to the motel at like SIX O’CLOCK tonight and despite saying, OOOooohhhh, we’ll rest a few minutes and get back out there!!! In reality it’s midnight and here we are. PJ’s and all. No going back out. That’s a little disturbing because it’s never happened before. We always walk till we (practically) drop, and NEVER give up until at least 9 or 10.  Our excuse was, “Brrrrrrr!!! It’s FREEZING!!!” Even though it’s like 47 so isn’t really freezing, but also isn’t exactly balmy either.

We walked a bit over nine miles. That’s no small potatoes. That’s what we do here, walk and walk, and usually it’s more like 12 or so, but 9 isn’t bad!!! We walked 12 yesterday and 10.5 the day before. It’s not like we’re some sort of weird marathoners so I’m not sure why I am concerned about this, other than it seems like an OMG WE’RE OFFICIALLY OLD sign. But seriously, we have never been high-energy people and we needed rests 25 years ago so I don’t know why I am going on and on and on about it.

Let’s go on and on and on about the fun time we’ve had instead! Because it’s been lots of fun. We’ve been out to Folly Beach twice and last night also drove around Sullivan’s Island and admired the Christmas decorations. And of course we’ve walked all over Charleston and enjoyed seafood and beer.

Ummm… OKAY, it’s just inserted everything I’d uploaded into the media file! Well, fine, it’s late and I need to go to bed, so I’ll pretend that I meant to post all these random and quite small pictures. Flickr works better for this, but of course the pictures need to actually be uploaded to Flickr and that takes forEVER on the iPad. So here you go, random and mixed up pictures of Folly Beach, Marion Square and their fun Christmas lights (on a somber note, the third one on the right on the first batch, with the colorful tree and the decorated palm trees – the church on the left side of the picture is the Emmanuel African Methodist church where the mass shooting happened in June 2015.)

The rest is the historic district, shop windows on King Street, various Christmas decorations, and fun (also Christmas) decorations in very very bright blue on Sullivan’s Island. And maybe I’ll make a more sensible entry later.

Loved all the pictures. Great oops! Really enjoyed them. Especially the one looking thru that beautiful window to the hallway inside. And the sweet little bird one is precious.

Such a great city for foodies. They never really have an “off” season there, so the crowds can get annoying. Lovely photos.

Omg, how great to see you here! You’re right, it’s never not crowded no matter what the season. We escape the worst by walking around the historic district and avoiding the market area as much as possible, but there are always crowds.

I love Charleston. Thanks for the memories.

Okay, added Charleston to my list of places I want to visit. The beach looks wonderful.

It is! I wish the beach was a little closer- Folly is probably 20 minutes or so -but it’s well worth it.

Oh what FUN! I would love to go to Charleston. There are so many places I want to see and experiences I want to have. Viewing your photos has been delightful. What a lovely Christmas you had. Here’s wishing you a traveling kind of New Year 2018! Smiles.
