Just when I’d totally dismissed the idea…!

I mean, just last week I unsubscribed from the Bonnaroo e-mail list.

I grabbed dinner this evening at Matt’s Bar this evening with Clint, Colin, Amy, and Amy’s daughter Delilah (it’s a greasy hole-in-the-wall with incredible burgers and it’s been featured on The Food Network once or twice). After dinner we went back to Clint and Amy’s for a beer and to hang out.

I read Delilah her bedtime story (it was a short story about pirates).

After Delilah went to bed we were all talking about a bunch of random things. Amy brought up Bonnaroo and about how she was really interested in going this year (mainly because the Beach Boys are playing, but also because there are many others that would be awesome to see live). Clint told her that the two of them could only go if she could convince at least two others to join (because renting a car and driving all the way there is a little spendy). She mentioned having brought it up to  her friend Bree a few nights ago. Bree said that she’d like to go. Colin said that he’d probably go. Amy then turned to Clint and said, "Well, I’m sure that Riely would be in." I smiled and replied, "Um… yes? I’d absolutely love to go again!"

The four of us discussed it a little bit and I think that there is a very real possibility that we’ll be buying our tickets on Friday. Amy called her friend Bree again, who said that she was totally in.

Just like last year, we’ll be renting a van. Unlike last year, there will only be five of us, and I think that we’re all going to try to squeeze into one large tent to give ourselves more room on our site for an open canopy like this:

(Last year our neighbors had one of these, and it saved our lives. It was way, way too hot to hang out in a tent!)

It’ll definitely be different, but I think that it could be pretty awesome. We now know what to expect. We now know that it’s the simple things that matter (like spray bottles, a canopy, food that travels well, gallon-sized jugs of water, bikini tops, ear plugs, floppy hats, sunscreen, and a pair of really comfy sandals). We know what not to waste our time bringing (hard liquor of any kind, wine, jeans, make-up, an air mattress). There are lots of things that we could have brought last year to make our time there far less difficult and recognizing all of that will help make this year that much better!
