Day 321 Thank you
*I wrote this entry Dec 31 2006. Sorry about the late update.
This year is heading to its end. Before I send 2006 off, I think about the people around me who have genuinely helped me. So I am using this entry to show my gratitude to them.
First, I can’t thank my family enough for the love they’ve given me. Whenever I talk to my grand mother and mother, I can feel their great love. Even though they aren’t able to give me practical advice on my future business, their trust and love on me can’t be compared to anything in this world. Their love is my No.1 resource for my momentum. I can lead my life passionately. My father gives me the sense of stability. Not to mention his careful advice, thanks to his financial support, I can solely focus on my studies without worrying about finances. Also, his life shows me the value of diligence. Every parent can say to his or her child, “Be diligent. Do not postpone today’s work till tomorrow.” However, not many parents can show the value of it in person. Saying it is not as effective as showing it. Thanks to my father, I can appreciate the value of hard work. I can’t imagine what I was going to be without all my parents’ help.
Secondly, I truly appreciate my firmly established friendship with my best friends. Even if I can’t hang around with them the way we used to hang around in high school, we still share our thoughts over the phone and whenever I take a break and go home, they always welcome me like their brothers. JH is the one I can talk about any topic I have in mind. For the last thirteen years, we have been the best friends. At least I think that way. J There were many friends around me due to my gregarious character. But when it comes to important moments, the friend whom I can trust without any doubt is only JH. My other closest friends might feel jealous or not happy about this, but I believe that people can’t have many best friends. Like lovers relationship, friendship also requires a reciprocal dedication. I don’t know how many of you have seen ‘Boston Legal’, but in that drama, there is a scene at the end of each episode where Denny and Alan talk over a cup of scotch and a puff of cigar at the balcony. They talk about their thoughts and exchange their opinions. Even though there is difference in their opinions, especially in their political viewpoint, they admit their differences and appreciate their different points of view. I think that’s true friendship. I thank god for letting me have a true friendship with JH.
Third, I thank my OD friends. As you know, the main reason I started to write my diary in here is to improve my English. However, if I was asked, “<sp
an lang=”EN-US”>Why do you write an open diary?” then I would answer without any hesitation “I wrote my diary in this web site to communicate with my online friends.” Even though I’ve never met you and there is a slight possibility for us to meet, every single note you leave means a lot to me. Especially, I got numerous notes when I wrote about my girl friend. Your opinions helped me a lot to deal with this problem and feel grateful for your help. So my point is… Thank you very, very much. ^^
Fourth, I want to thank for my English teachers, Agnes, Junai and teachers who proofread my articles. It’s been over a year since I started my phone call English lesson. Before I had lessons with Agnes, there were two other great teachers and they were excellent teachers, too. But having a lesson with Agnes means more than just having an English lesson. We talk about almost every topic even including my private topics, and she always gives me her thoughtful answers. I am not sure how long I will have lessons with her, but one thing is sure, that I want to keep in touch with her as a friend after I go back to the States. She is now one of my closest female friends. For Junai and other email teacher who has corrected my long articles as compared to others for over a year, I can’t thank you enough for your thoughtful help. Before I started this lesson, I was afraid of writing a paper in English. It was a great stress for me taking a class with many writing assignments. That’s the reason why I started to write a diary in English. But I am worried about the fact that there is no one to correct my mistake on my diary. After a few months, I found out that I could get help from my English phone call web site. With a great proofread from Junai and other teachers, I’ve gained confidence in writing a diary and now I can even write about almost every issue from political controversies to philosophical problems. I wouldn’t be able to write this much proficiency (^^) in English if it were not for the help I’ve got from Junai and other email teacher. I sincerely appreciate my teachers’ help.
I hope all you guys would have the very best in year 2007.
Happy New Year!!!!!!!! xoxoxoxoxoxo

OH, I’m slow to note this. Sorry! A belated Happy New Year! Best wishes for much achievement and much happiness is 2007. I really like the way you take the opportunity at the beginning of this year to recognise and thank those who are important in your life. Is this a Korean custom, I wonder, or is it your own personal custom? The Western tradition is to make resolutions about what we, personally, can improve but we don’t usually recognise what others have done for us. I think we can learn from you.

Hey, somehow I found your diary and I’ve been reading your entries, and I should say your writing is very good. I lived here in USA for more than 10 years and your writing skill is much better than mine. 🙂 How cold is Korea now? I haven’t gone there for almost 5 years… *sniff* 🙂
