– Cantigny –

Almost two weeks ago the Wife-Unit and I, along with Oldest Son’s FIL and his Friend visited Cantigny.

Cantigny is the estate of the late Colonel Robert R. McCormick. Colonel McCormick was the publisher of the Chicago Tribune as well as the person behind the WGN radio and television stations.

The estate is located west of Wheaton, IL.

The estate, named after a town and battle site in France during World War One, is now approximately five hundred acres in size. Originally it was slightly more than one thousand acres.

The only fee we had to pay was parking. The posted fee for parking a car was five dollars. We received a “Senior Rate”, TWO DOLLARS!

Open to the public are the McCormick Museum/Mansion/House, gardens and First Division Museum.

Upon entering the Visitors Center one of the first things you see is – – –

The Colonel was a member of the US Army First Division, The Big Red One.

Displayed near the First Division Museum are several tanks, ranging from this:

to this

The gardens were past their prime so I didn’t take many photos of the flowers. I do like these two however.

I did come across this character that I found interesting.

But he does need a haircut!

I will hopefully be returning to Cantigny next spring and summer when the gardens are in their prime.

This was very interesting and enjoyed the pictures. I can tell they have a “showing” of flowers by looking behind the interesting character. Wow lots of pots used to make him too. Take care

Sometimes it’s fun to take pictures of flowers past their prime, so you can show more contrast and how it’s starting to decline. Nice pictures, and I love that last one!
