American Idol: 12 Guys
For some reason, I’m not too excited about this season. Probably because of all that is going on in my private life. But I know some look forward to my armchair quarterbacking, so here goes: No one really blew me away in the auditions. So I’m late, but here are my brief notes on the guys.
By the way, Paula looks nice.
Rudy — Free Ride — He sang it well, but I don’t like the pitch of his voice — too high — and it was a lousy song to showcase it. Next.
Brandon — Rock with You — I like his voice. He seemed a little nervous. Isn’t showing anything special yet, but he’s got good tone and picked a song that suits him. One to watch.
Sundance — Nights in White Satin — I absolutely love this song, and he is bringing absolutely nothing to it. He’s nervous, mediocre and what happened to the guy in the audition? I am done with him.
Paul Kim — Careless Whisper — Wrong song, dude. Started way too low, went way too high and off key. Bad, bad, bad.
Chris Richardson — that song that Bo sang — This guy makes me really miss Bo. This is bad — it seems like it could almost have been good, but this is completely the wrong song for him. What’s with these song choices?
Nick — Now & Forever ?? — I kind of liked him, especially considering what I’ve been subjected to so far and he is my home boy. He didn’t come to overwhelm, he just came to sing. Seemed like he went off a few times, but I have hopes for him. I like that Simon defended him. But Nick needs to do something else with his arms when he is singing. He looked, well, weird with his arms hanging all limp by his side. Kinda like he was a stroke victim or something.
Blake — Something to Rely On (am I making up titles?) — I almost liked it but pitchy pitchy pitchy. At least he has a nice voice — now if he can stay on key next time. Great song choice though.
Sanjaya — I Don’t Want to Bore You — Well, you may not have wanted to bore me, but ya did. Awful, awful, awful. Bad song choice. Boring. Not bad vocal tone, but bad news.
Big Chris — Typical — He has a good voice, off just a tiny bit. But is he AI material? Honestly I just can’t see it. Then again, we all remember Clay . . . . I don’t like the lippiness — the charm has worn off for me.
Jared — I believe the song is called ONE — I like his tone. Can’t reach all the low notes though. Ouch, and he can’t reach all the high notes either. But I have dubbed him this year’s "Schmoopy-eyed Lothario".
AJ — ?? — LOVED THIS!!! Loved it.
Phil — I Could Not Ask for More — Uht oh! NO! No Phil! Bad Phil!! Do not, I repeat do not try singing those low registered, sensitive man songs. Your voice is NOT cut out for it. Started off so pitchy in the low register — once he got going, I liked it. Don’t like the song. I was hoping he’d do better because I like him. What was Randy listening to? Not the same as I was apparently. If Simon is going to compare any of these guys to Daughtry, he’s going to be very let down this season. When he hit the power house portion of the song he shined. That’s his golden ticket, he’s a vocal powerhouse. He needs to stick to singing songs that showcase that.
What an underwhelming night. How disappointing. On to the ladies in the next entry.
