American Idol: As I Hear It: Mariah Carey

Okay, I totally have to admit I was eagerly anticipating last night’s show with THE DIVA of all DIVA’S coaching them on her songs.  I thought it was going to be a freak show watching the guys try and rearrange Mariah Carey songs to suit their style of singing.  I literally could not wait to see what David Cooke chose.  Now onto my armchair judging.

David AIf You Believe — He did fine.  Ho hum.  Next.  Yes, yes, love him but he’s boring me.  He does the same thing week after week after week with whatever he’s singing.

CarlyWithout You — Ok, one of my all-time favorite songs.  Ok, I don’t like what she’s doing to the song.  Does she feel what she sings?  I can’t tell but I don’t see or feel a lot of emotion or heart when she sings.  It seems like she’s more interested in being a virtuoso rather than just delivering a beautiful soft heartfelt performance.

SyeshaVanishing — Yikes, pitchy and kind of crazy.  She tried but she needs to go home now.

BrookeHero — I liked her approach to this song, but she didn’t seem totally confident and then got wobbly and iffy here and there.  I wish she’d felt a little more comfortable with the song so she could have dug into it a little more.  I do think she could give Carly lessons in sincerity.

Kristy LeeForever — Well, I didn’t hate it.  Am I becoming a Kristy Lee fan?  NOT.  But I like this more than some of the others — so you go, girl!

David CookAlways Be My Baby — I’m not sure about this.  I liked part of it, and some didn’t sound right.  Then it totally picked up and sounded better.  By the end, I’m loving it.

JasonI Don’t Want to Cry — First impression: WHAT THE HELL?!?!  No, he can’t be doing this song…wait…what?!?!?!  Surprise, surprise — I like this.  The arrangement is interesting and I like his softness.  I could tell he scared Randy, but I thought it was a pretty cool version.

Bottom 3 — Syesha definitely, Carly probably, and Brooke over Kristy Lee.  Syesha SHOULD go home.

So what did you all think?
