American Idol: As I Hear It – Neil Diamond

(My Little) Jason — Forever in Blue Jeans — This worked because he’s likable and he has something cute in his voice that I love — ok, you all, no laughing.  Was it special?  No.  Was it absolutely pleasant and nice for a hot summer night (even though it’s not summer yet)?  Yes.
 
David C — I’m Alive — Well sung.  Didn’t really care for the song, but he sold it to me anyway.  This boy is ready for the big stage.
 
Brooke — I’m a Believer — She sang it in too low a key, a key that isn’t well suited to her voice.  So for me this was a major miss.
 
David A — Sweet Caroline — Right off the bat he’s changing the tune and I don’t like what he’s doing.  These days, I don’t like the tone of his voice — it’s just plain boring and always was.  Close your eyes and listen — his album would be no fun.  It’s the same with him, week after week.  Nothing new.  Yes, he’s talented, yes he’s incredibly sweet and I want to hug him and pet him and name him George.  But he’s boring.  Go back to Star Search, kiddie. 
 
Syesha — Hello Again — I almost liked this but I don’t know.  It got better when she got to the chorus.  Maybe she was nervous in the beginning?
 
 

— What was Paula on that she thought they had sung two songs already?  Is she even awake? 

 
 
Jason — September Morn — What’s with the fans in the front row swaying in the breeze like Nell?  He’s a sweet cuddly boy, but he needs to put more pizzazz into his songs.  Wouldn’t he make a great Partridge Family 2008 member?  Can’t you just imagine him singing I Think I Love You.  😉  😉  😉
 
David C — All I Really Need Is You — Don’t know the song.  Slow start, but it built up nicely.  He was flat in that very last note — ouch! Paula said she felt she was looking at the American Idol now — I think she thinks the season is over and it whooshed right by her – wake up, Paula!!
 
Brooke — I Am I Said — It was ok — nothing special.  I do love this song though.  (Obviously…check the title of my diary here.)
 
David A — America — Why does he choose this type of song?  I’ve never liked this song.  It’s like Kristy Lee singing that Proud to be an American song — knock it off!
 
Syesha — Thank the Lord for the Night Time — I’ve never liked this song either.  I liked her performance better than David A, putting a little soul into it, but I wasn’t crazy about it.
 
Bottom 3 — will there be 3?  That’s most of them.  Ok, Brooke, Syesha and David A.  Going home — maybe Brooke.
