American Idol: As I Heard It – Then There Were 8.
Michael Johns — Dream On — I didn’t hear pitch problems so much as maybe an overworked voice. I liked it, but if they ask others for some originality, then there was none. I do think this is his genre though — don’t quite get what Randy’s beef was.
Syesha — I Believe — I think she sang it fine but Fantasia has something special and unique about her voice. Well, as she went along, I think it got a little sloppy. Probably wrong choice.
Jason — Over the Rainbow — He’s awfully cute and I still like him a lot. Maybe because I like those kind of quiet, acoustic guitar type singers with some sensitivity. I don’t think he’s right for this competition, but I hope someone signs him and I hope he has something good come out of it. He’s supremely pleasant. Wow, I’m surprised the judges all liked it, too. I’ll have to toss a few votes his way tonight.
Kristy Lee — Anyway — I think that was her best performance. She could definitely have a nice little country career.
David Cook — Innocent — Is it good to sing a song that people don’t know? A song that starts off kind of boring? I don’t think he sang the low parts very well — then it got interesting when he went higher. So I don’t know if it was that good a choice for him.
Carly — The Show Must Go On — Interesting song choice, but I don’t think it suited her. It lacked intensity. I really want to get this girl but I just don’t. Sounds like she went off key a bit towards the end.
David A — Angels — I really love David, I do. But this isn’t his competition to win. Why? He’s too young, too sweet and I don’t want to see him ruined by success too early. 🙁
Brooke — You’ve Got A Friend — I wonder if she didn’t sit at the piano because Carole King always does, although I thought the song begged for that. This seemed a little iffy, and it surprised me because she has such a Carole King-type voice. I didn’t think this was one of her best.
Bottom 3? I guess Syesha, Carly and for me, David A., although it might be Michael. (Sorry David A. love ya too much to see you ruined by fame at this age.
So what did you all think?
Michael A will never be in the bottom 3. Syesha made a huge mistake. Singing that Fantasia song is like singing a Whitney song – it’s next to impossible to be even as good as the original, which means you’ll always pale by comparison. I thought David Cook wasn’t so great. Carly — oooh, way bad song. I think bottom 3: Syesha, Carly, and … I dunno.
Warning Comment
I think if I ever hear ‘Over the Rainbow’ one more time, I’ll puke! Brooke is definitely my favorite!
