American Idol – The Boys

Luke — Wake Me Up Before You GoGo — Ha, I love this song.  It’s so much fun.  I hate this guy’s tone and pitch.  Can you spell B-L-E-C-H?  Please leave now — oh please, oh please, oh please.  On behalf of George Michael and that other guy, I am offended by this performance.  He’s the first singer of the night and already in my bottom 2 list.
 
David A — Another Day in Paradise — A well sung performance of a ho-hum song.  I know, I know, I know, but can I admit to a bit of boredom?  It was just too old for this kid.
 
Danny — Tainted Love — Hideous.
 
David H — It’s All Coming Back to Me Now — what a brave choice.  This guy has a voice and range and can sing.  I’m used to hearing this song sung with even more passion and bigger voices — Celine and of course Mr. Meat.  I didn’t hate this at all.  Do you think we’ll see his nude stripper pictures anytime soon?
 
Michael — Don’t You Forget about Me — This guy is losing me at quite a rapid clip.  This is more a band song to me.  Love his accent. 
 
David C — Hello — Well, that was a surprise.  I found the guitar to be a bit of a distraction, maybe it was a little too loud?  When the rest of the band joined in, it blended in better.  Despite a couple of faulty notes, an excellent, confident and interesting performance and a new take on that song.  Good for him.  Best performance of the night so far.
 
Jason — Hallelujiah — The Jeff Buckley version of a Leonard Cohen song — what could be better?  Considering that Jeff had the rather distressing habit of veering wildly off key at times when he sang live, unlike his father Tim who had rock solid perfect pitch and a 5 octave range, this was a lovely performance.  I love this kid and his musical sensibilities.  He is MY AMERICAN IDOL — at least for the time being.  I guess I’m actually going to have to vote tonight.  Hey, I got right through –what’s with that?
 
Chikezie — She Builds Me Up ?? — This got better towards the end but in the beginning was too tentative.
 
Who should go home?  LLLLLUUUUUKKKKKEEEE — puhleeze!  And take Danny with you.

P. S.  Ok, after watching them run those short clips at the end, it’s a tie for me between David Cook and Jason for top performance of the night.  What an interesting night.
