American Idol: The Final Four
Hey, Barry got old!! As an aside, I love to shout this out, because, hey it’s pretty damned cool. I’ve met Barry in person and even been to his house when I lived in Florida. (He lives in Miami Beach — actually off Miami Beach on a island of sorts, where Gloria Estefan and Vanilla Ice also live.) How ya like them apples? So how did I do this? Brian’s best friend’s brother was in a band with Barry’s son. Barry’s son played at my wedding. Okay, enough about me crowing about brushing up against the rich and famous.
Melinda — Inside and Out — She was fine — it wasn’t a great song choice, although she sang it fine. Not great — fine. It was like filler on an album.
Blake — You Should Be Dancing — Hated it. Who wants to buy an album full of beat box crap? I just hated it. He needs to stop with that foolishness, yesterday.
LaKisha — Staying Alive — I kind of liked it. I know they hated it, but it didn’t suck. She did some different things and they weren’t bad. I did kind of expect her to go towards the falsetto at least once, but I didn’t think she was awful. I liked that she put a bit of soul into it.
— Ok, I have a question — if the melodies are so good they don’t need to change it up to make it their own, then does that mean they only need to change the crappy songs and try to make them their own? Because the judges have me confused now.
Jordin — To Love Somebody — Finally, someone picked on of their best songs. That was quite a compliment from Barry. This is nice. There were a couple of things I wasn’t crazy about, but it was a good performance. And they’re right — it was the best of the night so far.
Melinda — How Can You Mend a Broken Heart — Another great BeeGees song. I don’t like the way she kept repeating ‘How can you stop the rain from falling down’ — the third time, well — enough! She injected a nice bit of soul into it. I wasn’t 100% into it though.
Blake — This Is Where I Came In — I don’t know this one, and it’s boring. Bad choice. Bad night, Blake.
LaKisha – Run to Me — Oh, I do love this song. Interesting. I’m not sure if I liked it or not. Not sure about some of her choices in the second half of the song.
Jordin — Woman in Love — Interesting that you didn’t wind up comparing her to Barbra. She held her own, although I could do without the little whine. She really has great range. Tonight was her night. I didn’t think it was pitchy — did I miss something? Maybe some of the low notes weren’t strong, but I missed pitchy.
Why didn’t anyone sing my favorite BeeGees song — Words. ;(
Bottom 2, I guess, should be Blake and, for me, Melinda. Although she certainly didn’t have any bad performances. Can I just put Blake in the bottom 2 twice? I really hope he gets booted tonight. I just can’t stand anymore beatbox crap.
ryn: thank you! Yes, I was very saddened that Emma left. But her owners are so cute. They have a baby book set up for her and write me these journal entries, chronicling her days, etc. she’s very happy there, I believe 🙂 and I THINK they state is pushing for strict licensing and mandatory training. Pumpkin’s CGC already so we’re in the clear. I wouldn’t be opposed to a mandatory spay/neuter onthe breed myself… but it’s very unlikely they will pull a Denver.
